Another thing I thought I'd throw out is the notion that 24 is a conservative show. You've got an incompetent and corrupt government agency and a Democratic candidate surrounded by murderers, thugs and a scheming wife.
Oh, and if Penny Johnson Gerald (Sherry Palmer, aka Lady MacPalmer) doesn't get an Emmy, the whole process is rigged!

If Sherry Palmer doesn't wind up taking a bullet; I'll be terribly disappointed. I agree with your assessment of Nina...she is the mole. Some folks say that there are TWO moles, however. One thing is for sure...this show sure does keep you guessing.

To: who knows what evil?
Well, Jamey was the Gaines mole. Now we're talking about the Drazen mole. I'm sure Jamey didn't know about the Drazen mole and the Drazen mole probably didn't know about Jamey.
It was Nina and Tony who left Jamey alone when she committed suicide and it was Tony who actually interrogated her.
As I said above, I don't think there's a second mole, but I'm sure there's a second surprise.
It's addictive, I'm looking forward to tonight!

Well, I'm 2 episodes behind (haven't seen from 8 p.m. on). But, anyway, your suspicion of Nina as the mole, I suppose that would figure, storytelling-wise if only because she's the one Jack trusts the most. I have thoroughly enjoyed the program, but I admit the complexities have begun to take its toll on me. (I have a hard time watching tv with full concentration, I'm usually doing other things, and you really need to pay close attention to this one.) I also feel somewhat handicapped in figuring it all out, knowing that they reworked the plot because of 9-11. I think the story would have been even better if they had left it as is. My understanding is that they reworked the story to make it so that it's personal, with Jack as the target, but that that wasn't the original intention.

I wasn't aware that the major arc points were reworked. I know that the plane that exploded in midair was not dwelled upon later in the series, but much of the early episodes would have been filmed by 9/11. Interesting.
Of course, Hollywood's fear to have a Middle Eastern terrorist villain has gotten positively pathological by now.

Nina Myers as the mole would be the biggest shock, so that alone makes her the most likely suspect at this point. Tony's suspicion was already exhausted early in the series and George Mason, the most obvious suspect, seems less likely as the series progresses in its latter stages.
I'm also wondering if Jamie is really dead.
Sherry "Hillary Rodham" Palmer is pure eeeeeeeevillllll. Maybe she knows more about her hubby's assassins than has been revealed thusfar.
We'll see what happens tonight.

YELENA!

Ah, yes, Yelena. Still many questions to be answered. Is she Serbian or just sympathetic? Is she a Drazen? Does Tony know? I believe either Tony or George Mason knows. Maybe George called those two into the office and monitored their activities upon learning that Palmer was alive.
BTW, my original idea (which is now bunk) was that the person who hired the Drazens is in the Palmer camp and that he hired the Drazens to kill SHERRY Palmer. This would have eliminated a rival for David's ear and eliminated a problem for David. Personally, I think that would have been cooler than David being the target.
Still, I think the producers have one more surprise for us. BTW, the name of my "puppet master" was Mike Novick -- the nerdy chief of staff -- nobody'd suspect him, yet he's wherever the action is.

Wish I had seen this thread earlier. My wife and I had pegged Nena a couple of weeks back (wants Jacks wife out of the way, left the safehouse before the hit team got there and also knew Kim was en route to CTU when she got carjacked).
That having been said ... let me toss out the theory that in reality ... Nena is NOT a traitor!
Yes, thats right ... not a traitor.
How can that be, you ask? Well, what didn't make sense to me at the end of Tuesday's show was when she called the Drazens to warn them that Palmer was still alive ... why didn't she speak in English? Would it not be highly suspicious for her to be speaking a foreign language in the office at that point in time? Afterall, Drazen speaks English. There was no reason to speak in Czech (?) to him. Oh, I know ... she didn't want anyone to understand what she was conveying ... but the word "Palmer" would be the same in both English and Czech. And I would submit to you that speaking Czech would be a much riskier thing to do at that point then uttering the words Senator Palmer over the phone.
This leads me to suspect that perhaps she is a CTU mole who has infiltrated the DRAZEN camp! (/tinfoil hat off)

"Another thing I thought I'd throw out is the notion that 24 is a conservative show. You've got an incompetent and corrupt government agency and a Democratic candidate surrounded by murderers, thugs and a scheming wife"Yeah, but the Democratic candidate is a great man (I even like him!). Unless (GASP!) ... you suspect that ... HE is the puppet master???
To: AmishDude
"Oh, and if Penny Johnson Gerald (Sherry Palmer, aka Lady MacPalmer) doesn't get an Emmy, the whole process is rigged"You know, you are 100% correct. I hate her character SOOO much I was blinded to the fact of how good an actress she is. She should win in a walk.
To: CounterCounterCulture
"Sherry "Hillary Rodham" Palmer is pure eeeeeeeevillllll. Maybe she knows more about her hubby's assassins than has been revealed thusfar."Interesting. Perhaps hoping to "pull a Carnahan", to coin a phrase, and get herself into the White House? Afterall, why the timing of doing it after Super Tuesday?
To: The G Man
Yeah, but the Democratic candidate is a great man (I even like him!). Unless (GASP!) ... you suspect that ... HE is the puppet master??? That would be too unrealistic. He was clearly a target on Tuesday's episode. It was too close a shave for him to be involved. He reminds me of what people said about Ed Koch. Koch was supposed to have had the most corrupt administration in NYC history, but there was no evidence whatsoever pointing to Koch himself being corrupt. He was kind of a nice, clueless, lovable, bumbling old fool. Ulysses Grant's administration was similar, but Grant had an excuse -- he was drunk most of the time.
The fact is, if this happened in real life, maybe some early polls and focus groups would show Palmer getting support, but that would erode quickly when he couldn't satisfactorally answer the following questions:
- Are you going to keep the money?
- How did you come to know these people and how close did you allow them to get to you?
- Why were murderous thugs giving you money? What were you doing for them?
- What else are you hiding from the American people?
I'd give the campaign 3 days, tops.
OTOH, that means they're setting him up to be the tragic hero. His campaign will end somehow -- he'll probably just bow out, if I had to take my guess.
To: The G Man
Interesting. Perhaps hoping to "pull a Carnahan", to coin a phrase, and get herself into the White House? Afterall, why the timing of doing it after Super Tuesday? BTW, I know somebody that met Penny Johnson (before Jerald) I think at a Star Trek convention or a Paramount thing promoting Star Trek (she was Cisco's love interest at the end of DS9). Anyway, she is supposed to be a super-nice lady in real life, so don't take it out on the actress!
This is part of the reason I think this is a conservative show. (Possibly by accident, the way Forrest Gump was a conservative movie.) Either she's a Hillary or she's a Jean Carnahan. Either way, it doesn't make Democrat women look very good.
To: The G Man
The language would be Serbian, I'm sure. I doubt if Nina/Yelena is a double agent, simply because Andre (baldy) Drazen asks why she's calling. She's got to be a deep cover agent who is supposed to work behind the scenes but not contact the Drazens unless absolutely necessary.

JUST ANNOUNCED BY FOX!!!!:
Critical fave 24 will return for a second 24-episode day.
P.S. Does Dennis Hopper's accent grate on anyone else like it does on me?
It SOUNDS so fakey, though I have no idea if it's accurate or not.

Dennis Hopper has admitted that it's a very difficult accent for him to use.

I would have prefered to see Dark Angel return. A second season of 24 will be like the sequel to "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good Very Bad Day" -- what's the point?
