it's close enough to the truth that it's ALMOST not funny...

Yes, it borders on the depressingly true, doesn't it....Kind of like every Dilbert cartoon I've ever read...

Exactly! Dilbert is funny, but almost TOO close to the truth.

Hey ecurbh,

Do you get a cut from any books that are sold from your links? If you do, can you get a link up to The Silmarillion? I am going to be in the market for a copy probably in November or December. I think it would be an added bonus if I can buy one AND help out a fellow Hobbit Holer. ;^)

It was especially funny because there wasn't an accountant at the butt of it. ;^)

But we are more on the corporate managers side of the coin, aren't we? At least I feel that way....

I am listening to the BBc version of The Hobbit.

Bilbo has just wandered off with 13 rather strange companions.

Uh oh, they are sending poor Bilbo to investigate a fire off in the distance....I fear no good can come from getting involved with these outsiders.......

And then what happened?

Did they distract the trolls with endless babble until the morning sun turned them to stone?

Somebody should've bought those trolls a watch. They lost track of time and got caught in the rising sun. Now they are just so many pieces of lawn decoration.

What's this? Bilbo's found himself a nice little sword. "Sting" he calls it. I hope it comes in useful....

I'm feeling better today, I hope you are too

I'm glad you are! I think I am, but it's too early to tell... I'm withholding judgement for now!

A joke to start the day

Thanks for the joke! It's interesting, I've seen several variations of the same basic joke using two different people, including one with a Democrat and a Republican.

Speaking of funny things a little too close to the truth, are you familiar with the movie "Office Space"? If you've ever lived or worked in Cubicleland, you'll see a lot of familiar things in that movie!

How long do you think those stone trolls will be there? I imagine coming across them suddenly could really give someone a start!

Hey you guys, regarding this whole issue (ksens touching comments regarding concern for the future, etc). At the risk of sounding preachy, the verse that popped into mind instantly was this one: "Take no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof" Matthew 5 or 6 something or other. I still love the King James version of this verse best...

I didn't share it at the time because I was busy, distracted, unsure if I should, etc, etc.

Good to know that we'll never be threatened by trolls here in the Hobbit Hole.

The company has arrived in Rivendell. Elrond identified some treasure they found. He also found some strange writing on their map.

He was able to read the writing because he still had his secret Dwarvish decoder ring, not quite a powerful as a Ring of Power but still quite useful at times.

Aahh, there is a flitty elf-dance going on to entertain the company. Elrond doesn't seem nearly so snooty here. He must've gotten some kind of burr under his dress between now and LoTR.

The company has taken shelter in a cave from a rather savage storm. I don't like the look of it.
