Too bad ksen is in Pensacola. Oh well....maybe he got to see it.
I like movies that make me laugh!

I am intrigued by this! - Which of us almost got flamed by Bear in Rosebear I wonder! We will never know because he has restrained himself, and all is peaceful.
Has anyone else resisted the temptation to argue with a friend here? - I think to some degree, that is a good thing. I have been more likely to be sympathetic to their side when I have seen hobbits (and beornings and dwarves) elsewhere. But what if the hobbit hole friend is wrong? Should we try to change their mind? - What if it upsets the peace?
I know I would not have gotten that involved in the thread I was on (pro-life tactics) if there was a hobbit staunchly on the other side, because that issue is so emotional. On the other hand, less emotional issues like that piracy issue, where I don't have clean hands either and all here know it, I feel a bit more free to opine.

hehehehe - Marx brothers fits you I think!

From filmsite.org:
In the song and dance number, "Just Wait 'Til I Get Through With It," Firefly specifies the rules and program planned for his preposterous administration. He threatens, as a repressive, dictatorial ruler, to abuse his power, to be rude, obnoxious, irresponsible, insulting, cynical, and power-mad, ruining the country. Between verses, he plays a "Yankee Doodle" fife and dances around among the guests:
These are the laws of my administration
No one's allowed to smoke
Or tell a dirty joke
And whistling is forbidden...
If chewing gum is chewed
The chewer is pursued.
And in the hoosegow hidden...
If any form of pleasure is exhibited
Report to me and it will be prohibited.
I'll put my foot down, so shall it be.
This is the land of the free.
The last man nearly ruined this place
He didn't know what to do with it
If you think this country's bad off now
Just wait 'til I get through with it
The country's taxes must be fixed
And I know what to do with it
If you think you're paying too much now
Just wait 'til I get through with it...
I will not stand for anything that's crooked or unfair
I'm strictly on the up and up
So everyone beware
If anyone's caught taking graft
And I don't get my share
We stand 'em up against the wall
And pop goes the weasel.
If any man should come between her husband and his bride
We find out which one she prefers
By letting her decide
If she prefers the other man
The husband steps outside
We stand 'em up against the wall
And pop goes the weasel.

I'm trying to think of the title of a Marx Brothers movie... one of their early ones, I think. Anyway, it features scenes, in between the comedy bits, where each of the brothers showcases his musical talent... Harpo playing the harp, Chico playing the piano, Groucho playing guitar and singing (in a boat on a lake, no less) and I don't remember what Zeppo did, unless it was singing (crooning a love song, maybe?)
I *think* it was the one where Groucho plays a big-game hunter, but I don't remember for sure! Does any of that ring a bell with you?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Trying to remember which one had the boat scene. Animal Crackers? Is it the one with "Hurray for Captain Spaulding!"? Harpo and Chico usually had harp and piano numbers in these films.

Which of us almost got flamed by Bear in Rosebear I wonder! It wouldn't have been a flame, just a short, sharp question, to make a point. But, I also knew I needed to get to bed, and that I probably wouldn't feel like debating it the next day, so that worked to convince me to hold back as well.
I've been finding myself disagreeing with a lot of posters on the News side lately. It's been making me wonder whether I should stay as a member of FR. That's one of the reasons I've been so quiet lately.
To: Overtaxed
Thank you! "Animal Crackers" is the right one, I think!
One of the funniest parts of Groucho's song in "Duck Soup", to me, is that right after singing the line "And whistling is forbidden", he goes off dancing through the crowd, whistling. How subversive! :)
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Hehehe Apparently audiences didn't take to their satire at the time
Duck Soup came out.

I dunno... I guess it depends on whether the posters you don't agree with are the ones that are driving the forum direction or the outsiders.
I gave up posting in controversial threads for months because I never saw any minds changed, only arguments that further polarized people. It was common to feel I needed a shower afterwards, but I have recently become interested again. I am interested in attempting to be a bridging and calming influence on some issues.
My personal beef is that I think conservatives should not waste all their energy attacking one another or sounding repulsive (rather than convincing) to the opposition, two faults I see commonly in FReepers. There are a few issues conservatives as a whole need help learning how to handle without sounding like jerks. The environment and race politics are two of those, and I am trying to slowly get involved. I usually avoid abortion, not sure how I got into that today.
Where are your trouble spots?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear; Overtaxed
Jeepers.... You guys are having fun... disregard my boring post. I am locked in an un-fun mindset I guess, and not really being a good influence on the thread.
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm winding down getting ready for bed so I can go to work in the morning bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.....wage slave dontcha know (Cocoanuts. Marx Brothers 1929...I didn't even have to look that one up!)
To: Overtaxed
Apparently audiences didn't take to their satire at the time Duck Soup came out.Yes, I had heard that it was such a flop, that the brothers were nearly ruined financially...
To: HairOfTheDog
I can multitask!
the posters you don't agree with are the ones that are driving the forum direction or the outsiders.
I'm afraid it seems the ones I disagree with are the ones that are driving the forum direction.
I won't post what my beef is here, because it wouldn't be right for this thread. I'll probably stay quiet about it, because I don't think it's a battle I can win, and I don't think I want to expend energy fighting it.
I'm thinking about it a lot, though.

Good night, all. It's getting late for me! Here's a night light for us early to rise folkses.

Have a good night!

Oh man, guys...we get along swimmingly here in the Hole...you should peek in at the Chiff and Fipple (whistle discussion) board sometimes. Holy smokes, those people can be nuts! Why do you think I like to talk about whistles with you guys? You are at least rational!
To: 2Jedismom
They have flame wars on the Chiff and Fipple whistle forum? Whatever about?
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Fair enough... stay here certainly, and don't heed the nightly noises then! and if you ever want to sound off, FReepmail me. If I agree I will validate you, and if I am part of the problem, I will have an opportunity to re-think!
