Apparently Walther Arms is "reengineering" and "modernizing" which likely means outsourcing overseas but also hopefully offering a version in 9mm Parabellum / Luger (versus .380 / 9mm Kurz).
maybe they can re-enginner a 22 pistol that doesn’t jam every 3 -4 rounds. I sent it back, twice, still unreliable.
to be fair, the other walther pistol I have runs fine.
My EDC is a Walther PPS Model 1 with extended magazine. Awesome handgun, REALLY good handgun.
There are a lot of carriers who like the PPK but don't trust the lethality of the .380 / 9mm Kurz round. While blowback works for 9mm and even .45 as per Hi-Point using a very large slide, I suspect the reengineering plans for the PPK are one or more of the following:
1. 9mm Parabellum / Luger using recoil operation with a floating barrel instead of continuing the blowback design. Purists may not like it but the younger generation wouldn't care.
2. 9mm Parabellum / Luger in a new blowback design that holds the slide in place just long enough to use 9mm Parabellum / Luger ammunition.
3. 9mm Parabellum / Luger in a new blowback design that sends some of the excess gas forward to allow use of a slide similar to the current one.
I think you’re probably wrong on both counts, but apparently it’ll be a while so who knows for sure.
1. The current (now prior) version had German slide, USA frame (Ft. Smith, Arkansas).
1a. Walther recently began expansion of its Ft. Smith facility. This suggests all USA manufacture to avoid tariffs and control end cost.
2. It would really be a serious re-engineering feat to reconfigure that small thing to a Browning action vs. blowback. Doing that and handling 9x19, wow. Hope you’re right though!
My PP shoots better than me. 5 shots in a quarter size hole at 20 feet. A 100 year anniversary model.
Walther is just going to make cheap plastic guns.
That wouldn't likely point to a multi-year full suspension of manufacturing as they're doing here.
There are a lot of individuals who want to concealed carry with a PPK but want something with more power. If it could be reengineered for 9mm Parabellum, it might become a top seller.
Walther already makes "plastic" guns with the PDP, PD380, WMP, CCP, P22, and PPS. Those lines aren't being suspended like the PPK ones are.
And if you run out of rounds it can be used as a club. It has some serious heft.
Lack of a 9mm stopped my interest. Have a hard enough time thinking of the 9mm as a stopper.
Yeah, .45 ACP since forever.
Read of PPK users complaining of it being uncomfortable to shoot, something about edges, etc.
They are going to have to compete with so many new single stack 9mm and 380s.
Try Underwood or Lehigh .380. Hits hard allows a pocket pistol carry style. I’ll roll a 9mm in a belt or shoulder rig. My bad back and overalls sends me to a S&W Bodyguard 2.0 in .380. Pocket holster mostly. I’m not shooting far, so in self defense, it’ll work. Either that or not carry. That ain’t happening. Period.
Carry what makes you comfortable and happy. What you can shoot well but for your and family’s sake carry something. IMO. My shoulder rig/45S&W Commander is nice but carrying it in overalls is not very concealable. CCW means you don’t know for sure I’m armed. I like it that way. If everyone carried there’d be less mischief. Be safe.
I bought a new PPK and it was a huge disappointment. I couldn’t fire more than 2-3 rounds and it would stove pipe. I took it back several times to the local shop owner/smith and he couldn’t fix it. Traded it for a Baretta 84F, which I loved.
Also have the Bodyguard 2.0! LOVE IT!
Beat .380 on the market, bar none!
A message from Purgatory from 007, “I am not pleased nor is my majesty the queen. She made it to heaven and I still wait for final judgement. She is pulling for my release and can be very persuasive.”
Pocket carry and a bad back drove me to it. However, I’ve had a 4506, Smith 45 commander, model K-22, 57, 27, 19, 9 and 380 BG EZ, and the 380 2.0. I have a FFL and I’m obviously a S&W fan. Truth be told I like guns, all of them mostly. I’ve never had to shoot anyone and pray it never happens. But I have no complaints about the 2.0.
No, this one is a polymer pistol. Now that you mention it, I need to start carrying the Star M45 instead. That would work as you described. Less recoil as well.
