His wife is also very unpopular. Israelis hold their noses to vote for Netanyahu because the alternatives are far worse. And they are loyal to Likud (party.)
Why does this man require a pardon? Are the charges made up like the demonic liberals pressed against President Trump?
Snake pit of politics now is that only the most ambitious and crooked people are motevated enough to run for office.
It seems a universal truth regarding many politicians in any country or political party.
They primarily enter politics for the kickbacks, bribery, favors, insider deals, and other perks of office.
To serve their community or country is just a campaign gimmick.
Bibi is beset by the same sort of Lawfare we saw with DJT. he says he hopes a pardon will ease the divisions rife within Israel - but the opposition will never stop. they haven’t been able to win elections so they create chaos and roadblocks as a strategy. a very debilitating and unattractive and unproductive virus our democracies have produced.
“Why does this man require a pardon?”
It’s just a quick way to end the problem with the US media. A sitting leader of a country, or his/her representatives, need immunity and protection to do the work they do. If they can’t enter a country due to political threatening possible actions, they can’t do the work. The pardon relieves them arrest and prosecution.

“ I talk to people from the left and center who are against Netanyahu and criticize him harshly. But when I ask if they believe Lapid or Gantz could lead Israel better during a war, they always admit the answer is no.”
“The former cleaner, an ultra-Orthodox woman, has filed a complaint to the police alleging the PM’s wife verbally abused her and treated her like a “slave” … The details of the latest case, which follows hard on the heels of two previous cases that found against Netanyahu for wrongful employment practices…”

Thanks ... So Netanyahu is attempting to avoid an arrest from the newly elected New York City mayor? I am way behind the world’s politics... have not been paying attention...
I suspect just like here, in Israel, good people don’t want to run for office.
Also: I doubt Netanyahu - if he were in same position - would ever return the favor in backing up Trump.
His circle: Bibi’s been buddy-buddy with the likes of Mitt Romney since postgrad in Boston and he was the first to congratulate Biden when the 2020 election results were still barely in. 🙄
I’m not a big fan of Netanyahu (he’s way too liberal), but those FReepers who think he represents the “Jewish Left” and that the peacenik Laborites are “conservatives” are out of their minds.
We have a used autopen we don’t need anymore.
“”I am way behind the world’s politics...have not been paying attention...””
Which means you are smarter than the rest of us who don’t have the will to turn the news off....

from the report:
“He hasn’t been convicted of anything.”
me:
Just like PDJT
Israel doesn't have the right kind of charter?
“Also: I doubt Netanyahu - if he were in same position - would ever return the favor in backing up Trump.”
When the 2020 election steal was only about five hours old was the very FIRST world leader to scramble to congratulate Biden.
Wherever you stand in Israel, Netanyahu is a low life. (Mileikowsky before the name change)
Don’t forget, when the dirty traitor spy Pollard was allowed to go to Israel, Netanyahu was standing there on the red carpet late at night to meet him at the plane and personally present him with an Israeli passport!
Netanyahu is on trial for bribery, charges of fraud and breach of trust, in three separate cases.
He is the only sitting prime minister in Israeli history to face a criminal trial and has requested a pardon from the president, citing national unity, while maintaining his innocence.
Charges: The charges include bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.
Allegations that he exchanged favors with wealthy political supporters.
One case involves alleged exchanges of regulatory favors for positive media coverage.
Another involves receiving gifts like champagne and cigars from businessmen in exchange for advancing their interests.
Denial: Netanyahu has consistently denied the allegations, calling them a “witch hunt”.
He has been on trial for five years, and the verdict is not expected until 2026 at the earliest.
He has formally requested a pardon from President Isaac Herzog, arguing that the trial is a divisive issue and that it is in the public interest to end it.
The president confirmed it received the request and will “consider it with great care and responsibility”.
