#1 An adult non-citizen uses the SSN of family child born in the USA. There are children with jobs and tax returns for construction worker, restaurant worker, factory worker
#2 A non-citizen uses the SSN of adult family member.
#3 most common. A non-citizen uses the SSN of a non-family friend... a “cousin” from the same town in Mexico.
#4 a non-citizen uses an SSN pulled out of thin air which most likely is the SSN of a dead person, a living child, or an SSN not in use and not of a person who is working and reporting taxes.
#5 most common is a non-citizen using an SSN pulled out of thin air that is in use by another adult.
#6 The Satyam game. A consulting firm has 1 person with a valid H1b or other valid visa. The consultant firm places consultants at State Farm, Allstate, Discover Card, etc all using the same single visa and the same name, dob, etc., This was big wit Satyam, When Satyam collapsed and it was exposed its usage declined. But now it has come back.
The above 5 are the most common in the above order, in my experience. By far in-family is the most common. Satyam style is in-family from one way of looking at it.
#7....... There are others..list them if you know of specific instances of them.
Why should those over 62 always file a tax return, even if not required to do so? Is the purpose to have more interactions in cementing one’s identity if one needs to interact with “the federal tax collection agency” in case of identity theft/misappropriation of one’s Social Security #?
Clearly the financial institutions and others need to do a better job of policing.
I hear these commercials for home theft. I can’t even fathom how that is possible. It should be extremely difficult to transfer ownership.
So, appartently, SSN and DOB are NOT considered core credit information?
Thanks for the ping.
