Why in hell would somebody toss a fake skull in a concrete pour?

I'm not defending it, but I bet whoever did it is probably laughing so hard they're hyperventilating right now seeing the headlines. To put it into modern parlance, they did it 'for the lulz'.

To be fair, I've never taken an anatomy/physiology class and at a glance I can tell from the bizarrely thick nasal and maxilla that it's not a real skull.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced Monday that the skull was in fact fake, the Boston Globe reported.

That settles it then, as nobody at the head office wants to likewise end up as the business end of a pier.

Besides, this "fake" news suddenly puts Boston on the radar as the "place of the skull", and mob skulduggery.

Certainly not the first time. It's not just that the discovery account of the Boston Stone muller (in the old foundation area, back in 1835-36 when its pair of stones were reunited and placed as the head of the corner) is analogous to the midrash about Esau's head rolling into the Cave of the Patriarchs (Patrick -- a good Irish name)...

The Blackstone Building is also the place of the skull on the other side of the building, to the left of Adams Convenience (here's street view of the place and its coconut signage):
