The Marine Corps is part of the Department of the Navy.

True, they are the Men's department.

Actor Sterling Hayden was a Marine officer seconded to the OSS during WWII.

My father was stationed at Mare Island at the time of the 1940 census. When the census was made public, I discovered that one of the other Marines there was a distant cousin of my mother. Unfortunately my father had died before the census became available so I couldn’t ask him if he remembered the other Marine.
