Yes, it does seem strange that they would do this.

The average major league player makes over four million dollars a year. I know that average is distorted upwards, because of some huge contracts of mega millions for some.

But the median major league’s salary is over one million dollars a year.

A few years of major league service for a journeyman player can earn someone more than many people make in a lifetime of working other jobs.

It’s so hard to believe they would gamble, (pardon the pun) gamble on losing that payday from playing baseball to get involved in some gambling scheme.

When they start arresting owners for pre-arranging results we will be getting somewhere…

“I’m a Cleveland Indians fan and I say ban them for life. Pete Rose did less and got banned for life.”

I concur.

You can bet on whether the first pitch a pitcher throws is a ball or a strike.?

I did not know such bets existed. In that case, it’s guaranteed money for a pitcher.

A big payday for just one pitch he throws? Amazing to think about. Not even considering other variables that can affect the outcome of a game, these gamblers are not even gambling on that.

Clase is one of the best closers in the game. According to Baseball Reference, Clase made $4,900,000 this past season and was due to make $6,400,000 in 2026 and $10,000,000 each in 2026 and 2027 (team option, $2,000,000 buyout.)

He threw it all away to make a few thousand extra.

Wait... sports is rigged? I’m so confused. Is it possible that Jake Paul didn’t really beat Mike Tyson?

For the NFL at least gambling revenue has eclipsed league revenue. A cynical person might think agreements with their “official betting partners” are why the league has started making real time decisions to overrule refs on penalties and such.

The White Hospice went intentionally 'soft' against prosecuting rampant sports betting fraud, and also permitted gaming companies to get in and out of bed with network/cable. Just even a quick read of the Penn-Portnoy saga tells even the most casual observer that there is so . much . more . going on that is not getting any kind of reportage.

So it's interesting that all the players involved (not "players" players but the stakeholders) did not sufficiently kiss the Trump ring, and there are probably a jillion sports bettors at DOJ and FBI that have been screwed by their (own fault) jank parlays, got a remarkable amount of hotline leads on the skels, and decided to do a little investigatin'...

Interesting financial choice. He tried to win $7k. He has made $15M at baseball already. He is scheduled to make $10M each of the next two years. And he risked that for $7,000?

Dominicans can leave the Island, but can’t leave the corruption behind them. Sad. The MINIMUM MLB salary is 760k a year which is what Ortiz was making, Clase was more like 5 million last year.
