To the extent that there is a “labor shortage” in a field, wages will necessarily go up. That will attract more people into the field. Then wages will stabilize and there won’t be nearly as much of a surge of people going into that field.

Its called the free market. Its so crazy it just might work!

We do not have a labor shortage. We have a good paying jobs shortage.

BTW, given what Doctors are paid, the $100K fee will not deter hospitals from just paying the fee and bringing doctors over.

I say this and my best friend since I was 4 years old is the son of an Indian doctor who immigrated to the US in the early 1970s. We’ve literally been like brothers for over 50 years. Obviously I have nothing against Indians. I just don’t think it fair to American workers to flood the country with cheap foreign labor. No other country allows this.

Did you actually read the article? These are students, not doctors, on an H-1B visa. A previous post is correct, a large majority of the Indian students only come to the USA for school because they could stay and work here as well.

As former (25 years ago) tenured engineering faculty I concur. Get rid of both.
