Quite a contrast.
What the hell is that?
Why does the window treatment at the top right look like Arabic writing?
Sure it’s going to cost at least $850 million, but quite a bit of that is going for the Eye Of Sauron on the top. The electric bill alone...
Top left. The other right. Sigh.
The Trump tower is gorgeous. The Obama library is an abomination.
Trump should buy the building Ana leave it as is.
>> the Eye Of Sauron on the top. The electric bill alone...
Clapping.
Nearby U of Chicago campus has a variety of architectures, including neo-Gothic, Modern and Brutalist. Unfortunately, the Coffin gira in with the Regenstein and Crerar Libraries, not so much Harper Library and Ida Noyes Hall.
How much for one DEI Eye Of Sauron plus spare parts?
“President Barack Obama’s long-awaited library and museum”
By who?
People come from all over the world pay lots of money to stay at a Trump built hotel, resort, or other real estate with the “Trump” name on it.
The only people who will go to the Obamanation tower will be generations of poor school children who will be forced to make the pilgrimage through forced field trips. I wonder what hidden messages are in that scribbling in the window frames at the top of the tower?
I lived in New Dorms by Eero Saarinen, now replaced, across the street from Robie House by Frank Lloyd Wright. The desk light in our room was the same as the cafeteria table lamp at IBM Research, a building also by Saarinen.

The stone taken from the site was used to build the walls behind the glass front wall. The aisles were spokes of the semicircular building, all in various colors progressing down the aisle with the divisions of offices moveable to allow different sized offices.
At the front were occasional seating areas with whiteboards so that meetings could take place in front of the wall of glass looking out on the 200 acre site. Incredible place.
Loved the old architecture of U of C. Mother gave me a tour when I first entered and showed me places she’d loved when she went there, like the outdoor courtyard at Botony Pond.
The place where she met my father was the “temporary” building from WWI where I had my humanities classes. And I can still smell the old geology building and the old chem building. The Ad building was a 40’s abomination of square concrete.
Obama’s library looks like a power station on Tatooine...
The top right of the building is the top left of what is viewed from afar.
The Trump tower shows that modern architecture doesn’t have to be soulless. The curves, the columns, the varying heights, give the tower a heart.
Obummer’s looks like a mosques.
My time is before “New Dorm”. I understand that the horrible Woodward Court was torn down. Is the awful Pierce Tower still standing? U of C is a montage. I was never a fan of Wright’s “Tree Houses”. While Pick Hall isn’t Brutalist? It also doesn’t mix in very well with the classic architecture on campus.
I lived in Shoreland, which was the best of the dorms, but way too far from campus proper. Condos now.
