I know she is not a jazz bassist but how about an honorable mention for Carol Kaye (Wrecking Crew).

Actually, Carol Kaye was a (bebop) jazz guitarists. Started when she was teenager. She was asked to do a (guitar) session for Sam Cooke, and realized she could make more money on that. She played sessions as a guitarist for seven years, then in 1963, she had to fill in for a bassist that didn't show up, and decided she could be more creative at that. (Popular music is very boring for a jazz guitarist.)
A lot of session musicians started in jazz. Look at the Motown session players. And it's a cakewalk, if you are from playing jazz.

Percy Heath was a Tuskegee Airman, training on the B-24 when the war ended:

Who did you see Bob Cranshaw with. He did a lot of Sonny Rollins, and some great Wes Montgomery.

Saw him with Sonny in Atlanta.

These lists are stupid.
Coincidentally, I just went to see Adrian Belew, Steve Via, Tony Levin, Danny Carey last night, and it was a great show.

Victor Wooten is missing. List is incomplete.
