I can still remember the smell of those brown paper towels. Ugh

That doesn’t apply to what this lady said.
That’s right. And idiots here are accusing her of that.
Correct.
Getting them while they’re young and helpless.
This always amazes me.
Our tax dollars are a HUGE part of funding schools:
- School board
- Buildings
- Operating costs; heat, electricity, equipment, etc.
- Principal’s, office staff
- Teachers; including pension, salary, benefits (galore!), etc..
- (fill in the 100 items I’m missing)
YET the SIMPLEST of items, paper and pencils, are, apparently, beyond being able to be budgeted for out of those taxes. You’re telling me there’s no inefficiency, fat, or items that could be scaled back to make sure the MOST IMPORTANT items to learn, paper and pencils, are available to kids to actually DO WORK??
Why not just declare the teachers aren’t part of the budget either, parents must show up with $xxxx at the beginning of the school year?
Absurd.
Backpacks, so they can smuggle drugs and weapons in. If you cannot carry the things you bring to school, don’t bring it.
When school was out in the spring, one local grade school handed out a bunch of that stuff back to kids.
They had stockpiled it all year.
Go to school during classes, and demand that what was stolen is given back. If not, file charges. Of course, put the kids names on tablets and other large items.
The teachers at my niece's school tell the kids how poor and underpaid they are, and may have to go on strike if parents don't vote for the annual property tax rise.
Then they lie about low pay to the kids, saying that some teachers only make about $25,000. Yeah, that salary level is for brand new, part time, substitute teachers. A simple web search finds that the average starting salary for full time teachers is in the $40,000 - $45,000 range, depending on education and experience.
Take a look at your local school system. Find out how many teachers it has and how many non-teaching staff it has and you’ll then know where all that money is disappearing to.
That’s included in their vacvation pay. That’s part of why the parents have to supply so much that used to be paid for.
Seems like that started just about everywhere around the time right after my son graduated in ‘86.
The problem as I saw it was that the kids in the class somewhat constantly ask for paper towels and tissue. This is high volume during the cold and flu seasons. The school does not supply this stuff for use in the classrooms. Is it fair to have the teachers supply snot rags for their students at their own expense?
WE BROUGHT OUR OWN SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO SCHOOL.
WAS A BIG DEAL TO GET A NEW PENCIL BOX EVERY YEAR.
THERE WAS NO MANDATORY SHARING.
14 KIDS
8 GRADES
1 TEACHER
2 OUTHOUSES-—TP CAME WITH THE SCHOOL.
1 MERRY GO ROUND FOR ENTERTAINMENT.
WOULD NOT TRADE THAT EDUCATION FOR ANYTHING AVAILABLE TODAY.
My husband passed away last Tuesday and he would have joked the same way about this. Appreciate the humor.
I’m so sorry. :( I will send up a prayer for you right now for comfort, strength and peace and am sending a cyber-hug.

The TV host, Isiah Carey, said "and one of the things that we talked about in the last segment is a village. So if you can help other kids, why not?
And the teacher said, "exactly."
Isiah Carey said, "If you can afford to. That's the big question. Affordability. Now, if you have an extra notepad or pencil or crayons, then why not give it? Because you're helping your student's classmates.
And the other teacher said, "absolutely."
