Mandatory two year practical vocational schooling, and actual objective historical education, with military discipline would help youth.
Mandatory schooling after they eat of at least 12 years of youth? No! That could be even worse than the current coercive environment for Joe Taxpayer to pay for almost everyone to go to college.
I think if it was reformatted into a series of certifications that collectively added up to a bachelor’s and masters and doctorate, college could become worth it again. Not for general studies but some specific, like the equivalent of a trade.
With the exception of hard science degrees college is a scam and a waste of time and money
Nothing but indoctrination centers
Other than Hillsboro or Liberty…no
In most cases college isn’t worth it even if tuitions from 60 years ago still applied, an era when a classic education was still offered.
“Nothing but indoctrination centers”
That and money makers in the form of college football teams.
The NCAA’s Division I college football revenue for the 2022-23 fiscal year was nearly $1.3 billion.......that’s nothing to sneeze at.
twenty years from now: Why are all the professionals liberal democrats? Oh yeah, we told our kids not to go to college.
Maybe a little emphasis on developing a solid work ethic instead of 24/7/365 activism would help?
Electronics, optics, hydraulics, pneumatics, precision mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, operating cranes and other heavy equipment, photography, writing etc., as I blundered from job to job.
Never did get a resume' done, somebody always hired me before I got half way through writing it.
I never got a degree, but have more education than many who do have a degree.
There was no way I was going to waste time attending the indoctrination courses the leftist extremists force on students.
IMHO in addition to being indoctrination are a welfare system for "educators" who are to incompetent to do anything useful.
Confiscatory pricing.

You have a leaky Moen faucet.
Would you like me to place the necessary repair parts in your Amazon shopping cart?
Here are the links to two of the best repair videos for your type of faucet.
Much of college could be moved online.
There already trade schools out there. College is not about learning a trade.
No. Online College is perhaps better than none at all, but doesn’t compare to a well run in person experience. Sorry.
We could raise taxes on corporations and then allow them to get tax credits for training new employees without experience.
Get the GOVERNMENT out of college and the rest will fall into place. Loans will still be available, but only for PRODUCTIVE pursuits, as the risk of default will be on the bank, like virtually every other loan is. For those wanting to study Shakespeare, or Women’s Attitudes, or whatever, college will still be available, but people will have to PAY THEIR WAY, or put some skin in the game (as in collateral).
Obviously, many more people will learn trades (which really need to begin in high school, or earlier), and that is what’s necessary if the US doesn’t want to turn into a S-hole nation, given where the rest of the world is heading.
“Online College is perhaps better than none at all, but doesn’t compare to a well run in person experience. Sorry.”
If you are not getting the desired result, it is often an indication you are doing it wrong.
I used to think college was OK if your aspirations worked in that direction. Mine didn’t at the time. Now, college is a big money pit & there are other perhaps better choices. It would depend a lot on which college you chose. I’m well past college age now & if I did go, what would it be for....to get some indoctrination while I sit around in retirement?
Only as a credential and only where needed. If you want to teach English Lit at a non religious private school you have to go Ivy League, same for college professors most anywhere. Big CPA, Law and Investment Banking are credential driven. But, keep in mind that Ivy League college teaches less overall and less useful skills by far than the lowest ranking public community colleges. Just buy a used copy of any edition of the Harvard Law Journal on Ebay and read it for yourself. It is all nonsensical garbage.
