Probably not a bad thing to ride in coach if you have entitlement problems.

You should have reclined your seat back into the kid’s face.

I see the usual child haters - usually not parents themselves- chiming in. Yet the answer is simple and straightforward: warmly and nonconfrontationally speak to the parents about the child’s behavior. Most of the time, the parents will realize that correcting their child is simpler than dealing with the complaining person and maybe more people who hadn’t worked up the nerve yet to complain. With most parents, that social pressure should do the trick.

If, however, the parents won’t get the kid to behave, the next step is to get the flight attendant appraised of the situation and to let him or her know that inaction will cause the airline to hear of it. It then becomes his/her problem and I always let the know that I’m a frequent flyer and a superb letter writer- both “atta boys” and “got this problem with your company” letters.

Saves a bunch of on line sympathy- solicitations from childless cat ladies.

Would the child’s behavior be any more acceptable if this happened in coach?

Ok I’ll take that question

You pay $500 for an out and back 3 hour flight and the kid behind you is a maniac his parents don’t really care to fix the situation and your out of there in 3 hours

Or you pay $1,600 for the same flight in business class and the child acts like a maniac and the parents don’t fix it

If you don’t think that is two different situations then give me $1000 if you don’t need it

Yeah...

I've been flying first class since I retired, but that's been only domestic flying where the seat is only about $750 more.

I have a flight to Europe at the end of the year, but I haven't gotten my mind around paying an additional $2,000 for a business class seat on KLM that only reclines slightly more than in coach. It might be worth it to me if it was on one of those planes where the seat fully reclines into a bed, but that's not the case on my upcoming flight.

The kid started his crap before they were over the Atlantic. The staff had time to tell the kid to shut it or land the plane.

Divert the plane because of a crying kid? LOL!

My God, when did we all become such whiny pansies? Kids cry. Deal with it.

JBL noise cancelling headphones.

Best $80 I ever spent!

Paris to JFK isn’t a three hour flight.
The child kicking my seat back for the duration of the flight isn’t acceptable in any class of travel. His parents failure to correct the child isn’t acceptable either.

Ok you’re making my point

The parents have a right to have an annoying child. One can complain but one has no case

When you pay business class the airline takes the extra money in order to assure a peaceful flight. A child has no reason to be in business class. When you sing up for business class you agree to be well behaved and the airline agrees to make others well behaved

It is $1,200 compared wot $4,500. If you’re not paying for peace and for the airline to create and keep the peace what would you say you’re paying for? For people to stare at you on the way into coach? A wife seat for 8 hours is worth $3,000. No way

Last September, my oldest son flew United, and paid extra to upgrade his flight from economy on an overseas flight to Berlin. He said a woman sat next to him, and her son was up and down the whole flight, kicking the seat in front of him and running around the plane. He wasn’t able to sleep at all during the flight.

"My wife and I often lament that we didn’t develop and market a line of kid sized straight jackets.....we either would have been millionaires....or in jail."

I always thought restaurants should offer a section for families with kids so that people who were dining without children, wouldn't have to put up with some kid kicking the back of their booth, screaming, or dealing with a kid running up and down the aisle the whole meal.

I knew you were kidding but some people have very strong feelings about child leashes. They used to be acceptable but considered abuse by some now.

I had a similar encounter at a Dennys. My wife and I beamed when the older couple complimented the kids’ behavior. My 4 know they can act up a little at home. But out in public? No way.

I have great kids. 3 adults, one 9 year old. Still on my first wife, too! LOL

I went business class several times for work, and yes, it was great.

I only paid for business class once when flying from San Francisco to Barcelona to catch a 12-night Mediterranean cruise. I figured I didn't want to be jetlagged when I got there because I had a full schedule for the first week, so it was worth it to sleep on the plane and be rested when I got there.

Dennys is not jfk to Paris business class. The difference between coach and ld business class is about $3,000 you pay United to monitor and control the environment

I went business from NYC to my little city on United and it was great. It was just like Eastern Coach NYC to St Thomas 1972 when I went with my family. We wore dresses, the guys wore ties. They served us on plates with flatware. The seats were roomy
