He could have taken a bullhorn in there and no Amtrak employee would have said "boo" to him. Some animals are more equal than others, and "Amtrak Joe" was not to be crossed.

I just checked Amtrak’s site for the routes that officer dining cars or cafes, and there isn’t one if your traveling from NY City to western NY Sate.

Accela trains are special. They are faster, offer more amenities, travel a popular route, and have cafe cars and food service at seat in first class. They also charge accordingly.

I grew up in the 50’s in Rochester, NY. My Dad worked for NY Central Railroad as a Track Foreman, so he had a family pass for us all to ride the train for free. It was a real treat for us kids, because we didn’t have a car. Back then they had dining cars on all the trains, and they also had porters come around with sandwiches and drinks during the ride. My mother used to pack sandwiches for everyone, and brought along an insulated bottle that she’d put Kool-aid in. For a small kid, it was the cat’s meow. My father retired not long after the company became Penn Central. The Acela Train doesn’t come anywhere near where I live. About four years ago, I thought about taking the train from Rome, NY where I live to visit my youngest son in Indianapolis, Indiana. I called Amtrak to see if it was a possibility, but they said I’d have to go to NY City or Washington first, in order to get a train that headed out that way.
