Whoopsie.
Lesley…Lesley McNair…is that you? Good God man I thought you were KIA in France!!!
“ “Tanks must be fast enough to outmaneuver infantry, but speeds above 25 miles per hour are rarely needed in practice.””

I think we were in Montana and the speed limit was 85. We were doing 95 just to try to keep up with the other drivers and there were cars blowing past us like we were standing still.
In the words of Eddie Griffin, brother cant drive!
Amending my response to reflect that the speed limit was 80 not 85.
But driving will still be possible?!
I suspect that the spatial awareness, visual acuity, good hearing, clarity of thought, familiarity with traffic law, quick reaction time, etc. all needed to safely drive peter out long before the ability to walk does!
A lot of those octogenarian drivers still out there on the roads, endangering the general public, would do well to limit themselves to walking, rollators, and tricycling - and/or Uber Eats.
Regards,
“And really: Who (except the police and other emergency vehicles) needs to go faster than 35 mph?”
Did you forget the /s ???
Ahhh the memories...we went off the road in the Santa Cruz mountains one rainy night in the 80’s...was “co-driving/navigating” in a SCCA “Time Speed & Distance” rally (us: college students in a semi-souped up VW bug)...no where near Lambo level...we were probably the least expensive car in the rally of Porsches, BMW’s, etc.. Minor fender ding, got back on route and finished Top 10 I think. (Pizza & beer after).

Your panacea of mass transit runs at a loss.
The eminent late Professor Walter Williams suggests that would could completely eliminate vehicle death with a mandated 5mph speed limit.
Expect the stress related heart attacks from going too slow. And the boredom of the six-month cross-country road trip.
I’m one of the few people to actually get a speeding ticket in Montana. The troop stopped me at 92 and told me it was only because it was dusk when the animals come out.
I didn’t tell him I’d been doing 110 across most of the state.
I thought that you could write in a plea but after I returned home realized I had to go to court.
I called the court and the judge heard my plea over the phone.
“Well, I was going 92 in an 80, but your honor, you have some awesome roads out there.”
She busted out in a deep laugh and gave me 30 day probation before judgement. I had to pay the ticket but no points. (My goal all along)
It was worth every penny of $70 to drive 110 mph for five hours straight.
Re the 30 bikini babes on the sinking boat, “…a woman can be heard saying as each one was rescued. ‘F–k, f–k.’”
She is upset at the loss of revenue on her three hour cruise.
What else fo you do with such a car?
You zip, zap, zig, zag, and roll. The insurance is too much to keep it very long!!
Get the chicks, then into the sticks.
Could be worse, could be raining...
Nice.
You wrote “…it’s worth the $12.00 to bypass Austin.” In more ways than one, no doubt!
Sarcasm…..I suppose
Made it from Denver to NYC burbs in 24hrs. w/2 drivers.
~1970 in a 914/6. Through Kansas at about 135.
I met a guy at a retired men’s club meeting a month ago. He is 80 and just last December bought a Tesla for the self-driving feature. He says that 85% of his miles are in self driving mode. I had not previously thought about how that feature will keep older Americans mobile longer.
I hope you don’t use freeways!
Fix the cigarette lighter!
