COST OF CAR INSURANCE TODAY HAS ONE CULPRIT:
UNINSURED DRIVERS.
INFLUX OF ILLEGALS HAS CAUSED THIS-—PERIOD.
Drive 1976 1 ton truck & 1979 Buick wagon.
Insurance on truck===48.8 % of total premium ==UNINSURED DRIVERS......39.7% of wagon premium ==Uninsured divers.
NO accidents. Have driven OVER 1 million miles.
Bought only 1 new car in my life-—1965 Pontiac wagon. Put OVER 444,000 miles on it in under 20 years.
They probably coasted without hitting the pedals. Hence the report of a reckless driver.
Our son could drive any of our tractors by that age, even down the road. Just like the neighbor kids.
I asked my insurance agent to check on which of our vehicles was the cheapest to insure for our daughters to drive.
He did and said, "you're not going to believe this, the Unimog."
So they learned how to drive in a 6 speed forward, 2 speeds reverse 404 Unimog.
The younger daughter also in a Series III Land Rover lightweight.
The insurance was only a few bucks more.
“He did and said, “you’re not going to believe this, the Unimog.”
That is hilarious... I believe it. They have some strange policies that sometimes make no sense at all.
Safer for themselves but not others... It is a tank... lol
Maybe it has to do with the uninsured drivers thing someone else mentioned?
Most small cars hitting one will probably do little if any damage to the Unimog
Also, with a top speed of 65 MPH, down hill...
Yeah I don’t know how they would figure it, unless the Unimog is fitted as an RV camping rig? Or they automatically consider them weekend camping rigs? Another factor might be mileage driven and usage. They know it is probably not going to be a daily commuter vehicle.
As far as damage goes that is why I drive older hard body vehicles. I would rather they crumple before I do. I like to have real metal fenders between them and me.
Know what? There might be one other factor. I hate it because it is a scam but they “cost share” with pricing in different zip code areas. If your particular make and model has been involved in a lot of accidents in your area code they charge more in that area code for that particular make and model. I’ll bet there are not a whole lot of Unimogs in your area to increase this number of accidents policy... :)

sit on the front edge of the seat. I have done it in a 56 International PU and it was manual with a starter button on the floor. When I was 11, I regularly drove a 3/4T 64 $WD pickup ten miles one way from one farm to the other and it was a 4-speed manual. I only had to drive about 2 miles on a blacktop road, the rest was gravel, but I still got the old truck up to 85mph. I might have not even been 11, I just know that it the 64 was traded for a 69 3/4T 4WD, so I was 12 at the very oldest, and I know it was quite a while prior to the new truck.
Obviously I was in a really rural area, also.
I have a nephew who drives to my house many times. No matter how many times he insists in using his phone or car GPS route decision maker every time. I’ve told him in a joking way about what I think is a serious matter. An aspect of his brain-muscle neural networka ability is atophying.
