So would you change the name to the Rose Courtyard?
That could work. I’d be fine either way.
No, he was fond of his policies before any of that.
Chacun son goût.
I enjoy it, but then I also enjoy the Long Island Duckling School of Architecture. I was raised in Chicago by a mother who studied art so spent my childhood wandering downtown streets as mother pointed out architectural elements on very elaborate buildings. Love it all! But I can appreciate someone else’s different taste.
Seems gaudy and superfluous.
And timing is key.
I have 4 that I look back on very fondly, including the small one that was the start. It taught me the possibilities, thank you Jimmy Carter. I see land now and tell myself it’s someone else’s turn.
You’ve made me wonder what varieties of roses are in that garden. I became obsessed with Meilland Roses after reading a Smithsonian article on them decades ago.
And found the answer.
“roses have served as the primary flowering plants in the garden, including large numbers of ‘Queen Elizabeth’ grandiflora roses, along with the tea roses ‘Pascali’, ‘Pat Nixon’, and ‘King’s Ransom’. A shrub rose, ‘Nevada’, also served to add a cool note of white coloration to the landscaping.”

Melania added the Pope John Paul II Rose in Trump’s first term.
A little surprising that they don’t have more red roses.
Fair point!
Yes, this may not be the time for enlarging the WH, given that we’re supposed to be trying to shrink the government.

Absolutely beautiful. More subtle than a red one.

One of my early videos after getting a camera, where the nursery let me rearrange their pots after a rain. The song was one my mother would sing to me.
Everything except paving the Rose Garden. Please no. They don’t need a “convivial terrace” there. The Rose garden as is has been the site of historic gatherings and is in itself a beautiful place. We already have plenty of hard scape in DC.
In my town we have historic roses called the Smith & Moorpark variety. There’s beautiful garden 400 feet from my house where people have their weddings and/or wedding photo shoots. It’s part of a local vineyard owner’s property.
The pale moon was rising
Above the green mountain;
The sun was declining
Beneath the blue sea
When i strayed with my love
To the pure crystal fountain
That stands in the beautiful
Vale of Tralee.
She was lovely and fair
As the rose of the summer
Yet ‘twas not her beauty
Alone the won me
Oh, no! ‘twas the truth
In her eye ever dawning
That made me love Mary,
The rose of Tralee.
The cool shades of evening
Their mantle was spreading,
And Mary, all smiling,
Was listening to me,
The moon through the valley,
Her pale rays was shedding
When I won the heart
Of the rose of Tralee.
Though lovely and fair
As the rose of the summer
Yet ‘twas not her beauty
Alone that won me
Oh, no! ‘twas the truth
In her eye ever dawning
That made me love Mary,
The rose of Tralee
Lovely and less cliched. I just didn’t expect the apparent near avoidance of red.
I never promised you a rose garden.😏

Sorry, that’s the best I could find on them.
Thank you! I’m glad you said it first. I love the man, but his personal suites scream 1970s Vegas, with too much gold brushwork and lilt. The White House is simple marble and stone purity, adorned with historical antiques - and maybe a still outdated sofa in the Oval Office. However, I understand the recent landscaping idea was his and that was a smart update.
I found that on the net but I’m going to walk down to the sign at the rose garden and send you what that says in a couple of minutes because I think it’s different. Fun stuff.
Always wanted to do that song but never did.
