It's really a great show! My wife, who is a big fan of the "swords and sandals" genre stumbled across the trailer so we sat down to watch it. It was a bit slow during the first half of the first episode and then it picked up quickly.
The show-runner is Jon Erwin, one half of the Erwin Brothers, Christians who operate the faith-based Kingdom Story Company, but unlike so many faith-based film productions, this one isn't cheesy or preachy. It was made for a wide audience and it shows. Great storytelling, special effects, production values, scenery, and costumes.
Anyhow, I recommend it. Word of mouth is propelling it into a significant hit for Amazon Prime Video.

Up to episode 4. Was just about to start ep. 5.

Nope. However, did start watching Reacher. So preposterous I could not even get thru Episode 1. How Lee Child could allow his main character’s portrayal turn utterly stupid with acting so bad you can almost see the cue cards the actors are reading is beyond me. If that’s a #1 show, David’s gonna slay Reacher.
I thought Reacher sucked, even before the lead actor came out as a Trump-hating libtard. Terrible acting, writing, story line, attention to detail, everything. The whole package stinks. Reminds me of a terrible 80s straight-to-video D-list action flick.
My wife, unfortunately, loved it and wants to keep watching it. I told her she could watch it during the day while I was at work.
I don't think it will. Jeff Bezos seems to be on board with the cultural vibe shift.
There’s a few YouTube religious “experts” that are vociferously against it because of the liberty that it takes with dialog.
Evidently, putting any words in a Biblical character’s mouth that isn’t specifically mentioned in the Bible is a sacrilegious act beyond the pale.
I’ve a few friends in church that love the show.

I watched the first ep last weekend and enjoyed it.
I won’t watch Reacher anymore as I see no reason to reward the star’s ongoing TDS and general disdain for the conservatives who make up the show’s fanbase.
Indeed - first season of Reacher was barely tolerable, and got cartoonish toward the end. The second was just inane beyond description - even the actors/actresses seemed bemused by the idiocy of it all.
The lead is just a tool - moves and sounds like a golem made out of dimensional lumber.
“David” is an enjoyable show, looking forward to more episodes. As for dialog purists I guess their Bibles are all written in Greek or Hebrew.
That was David asking Ahimelech if he had any weapons. And Ahimelech said that the only weapon there was Goliath's sword. The most the Bible records of David's response is "There is none like it. Give it to me." (1st Samuel 21:8) I've often wondered if it was a spiritual/courage boost for David. At Nob he was on the run and at one of the lowest points in his life. But holding Goliath's sword again must have been a reminder that David serves the Lord of the Impossible.
Gatekeeping like the Roman church. Many are pastor’s denigrating Chosen and David who most likely have no problem filling in their sermons with extra-biblical commentary.
These are stories. Never let facts stand in the way of a good story.
That said, I don't watch anything that purports to relate to the Bible released after the 60s. The Robe from '53 is good. As is the '59 Ben Hur.
It is said hollyweird strives for 12% accuracy in their docudramas. That leaves 88% fantasy/fiction.
I'll pass on this as well.
The same thing has happened with “The Chosen.” These shows are “Bible” based but are not the “Bible” and they tell you that before each episode. I have been tracking The House of David and while they clearly add a lot of dialogue and back/side stories that may or may not have happened, they are staying fairly close to the base Bible story. The Chosen does the same.
I agree with the proposition that it is wrong to add to or take away from the “Bible.” But these shows aren’t the “Bible.” I believe these shows are serving a good purpose. They are exposing many who are not acquainted with the Bible to the Word in some respect. And hopefully they are causing people to crack open the Book and learning more.
I am thankful for these shows. And the House of David is great.
We watch as a family. It’s really good.
Reacher was so bad. The acting and writing was awful, the storyline annoyingly boring. I bailed after S1E4 - couldn’t take the protagonist’s mumbling and aimless plot.
You think Season One was over the top, try Season Two.
