The key word is “tagged”.....caught is another discussion all together.

Yes I think this is a good idea. Tag these sharks, and take care of them, off the coast of Florida. Then just WATCH them and DO NOTHING when they get hungry and want a snack in St. Pete Beach. I would just follow them and fly over them and maintain radio tracking on them and just watch and keep careful data and record it.
I think it is a great plan.

Thats the first thing I though of.....
The dude from Jaws said exactly what you quoted....and how much bigger that was then this.
BUT....not in the headline but in the article, is that it is a MALE shark...which are significanlty smaller I guess then female.
Turns out the female “Deep blue” is over 20 feet....so she could feasibly reach what the good captain was describing in “Jaws”

1,652.8 pounds. I'd like to know how they weighed it.
It was obviously estimated at 750 kilograms. People think they can include uncalled for accuracy when units get converted.

The “Great” isn’t really the normal term. Generally just the white shark term is used by scientists. According to what I’ve read. It’s like adding “Great “ to the smoky bear or the Easter bunny. You know the great smoky bear or the great Easter bunny. I think there’s even conjecture over when and who coined the term great white shark. Just some useless info for ya. .

Why is a research group swimming off Florida tagging a large shark ?
Didn’t they have a boat?

The largest 'male' white shark ever caught, tagged and released was found off the Florida coast in January.
