Carling and the Black Label brand are currently owned by the Molson Coors Brewing Company. Though no longer widely distributed in the U.S., Black Label is still available in select markets (notably, metro Detroit), and remains the official beer of Beer Frisbee.
Back in the 1980s there was also OV/Rolling Rock Splits night on Mondays at Mulligans Brick Bar in the Allentown section of Buffalo.
It was a big hang out for the college kids. It was called the brick bar because the walls and floor were brick
On Mondays they would sell you a case of OV Spits(7 oz
Old Vienna bottles). Dump ice over the case and open up all 24 bottles. They had old metal milk crates scattered around the bar to collect all the bottles. Eventually bottles were dropped. So the brick floor would be a blend of beer and glass by the end of the night.
At the end of the night they would sweep up the glass, hose down the floor and down the drains in the floor.
I believe it is still there, but they no longer sell OV Splits of beer by the case.
I remember Carling Black Label. We never drank it though. In college we drank Matt’s. Sometimes out of their BEER BALLS.
We had a local bar with a concrete floor that we'd go to in the 80's. After the 2nd dropped bottle from someone in our group we knew it was time to go home.
A H.S. buddy went to UB, I went out to visit in the late 70's. He took us to the bar that supposedly started Buffalo Wings, then we saw The Cars at the memorial aud 10/5/1979.
I spent a summer in Buffalo on a project one year. Probably the best summer I ever had.
Just glad I wasn’t there for the winter, LOL!
For good reason. A colleague kept a boat out there on Lake Erie, I imagine that was like being on an ocean. Another friend lived there a few years, clearing the snow is a full time job.
There’s a live cam to watch the construction of the new stadium, so I got to see all the snow they got last night.
Yep, I'm paying for that stadium. Maybe some day they'll win a Superbowl and the seasonal ticket sales will defray the costs to the taxpayers :)
There’s nothing wrong with their current stadium, it may not have the bells and whistles, but it looks to me like a football stadium should.
Two of my brothers went to UB. Another went to Binghamton.
I went to SUNY ESF @ SU.
The Anchor Bar on Main Street invented Buffalo Wings.
The story is on the back of the Frank’s Hot Sauce bottle.
Omg! I forgot all about those big brown beer balls!
I actually live near the original anchor bar, where they invented chicken wings. I’ve been there many times.
