I’ve never been to war. I’ve said that here many times. I’m merely commenting that war can be a business.

No less a soldier than General Eisenhower said that.

Interestingly, General Eisenhower was never near ground combat. He was always with training or staff assignments,

As a leader of the Allied movement - not the same thing as combat. Combat is the sine qua non of war experience: if you haven't been in combat, then you don't know much about war.

Now Old Gimlet Eye saw combat during the Banana Wars, no question - and that was a racket to back the National Fruit Company. National wars of survival - such as the war against the Nazis and the Japanese, and the Communists - are necessary and just. Wars to support the contractors and the moneyed interests are not.

Yeah I know all about the Banana Wars.

When I was a liberal I used to rail all against it.
