As a leader of the Allied movement - not the same thing as combat. Combat is the
sine qua non of war experience: if you haven't been in combat, then you don't know much about war.
Now Old Gimlet Eye saw combat during the Banana Wars, no question - and that was a racket to back the National Fruit Company. National wars of survival - such as the war against the Nazis and the Japanese, and the Communists - are necessary and just. Wars to support the contractors and the moneyed interests are not.
