Many came here probably by accident. The Phoenicians, being traders found little of worth for so long a trip. They just missed the Costco Indian tribes otherwise things may have been different.
Columbus may have dazzled Ferdinand and Isabella with visions of the wealth of the East to get some ducats but I understand he was really after peppers.
An Italian can’t make a good pepper and egg sangweech without peppers.

I've saved it for viewing when I have more time. Thanks for posting it.
I also wondering when they established their outpost in Arizona. :)
I can’t find the original story but am quite sure it was a YouTube video from several years ago.
In a nutshell everything was going well for the Vikings at L’Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland.
Then one high ranking woman had an argument over who gets which house. Her husband was a grand pooh bah and built her a nice house but she wanted someone else’s.
To avoid costly infighting and possibly risking their lives in the wilderness they headed back to Greenland.
The upshot was how history would have been very different had Native Americans had access to all the technology of the Old World via the Vikings but their fate was sealed by one woman having a hissy-fit.
We learned that in grade school, I believe.
I think I remember that article, referred to a tablet purportedly found in a South American river, with a short inscription from a Phoenician ship captain. Lost of course, but not before it was recorded. Naturally I can’t turn it up on the web right now.
> the question isn’t who discovered America, but who didn’t...
Wow, well put!
Thanks for that link!
My pleasure!
I like that pepper theory... :^)
Long trip, but they are known to have traded for tin in Britain, and to have reconned the west coast of Africa (Periplus of Hanno) and circumnavigated Africa clockwise from the Red Sea (Herodotus).

I hope nobody has a knee-jerk reaction to the allegations in this video. It offers a stern reminder not to be phooled by phake news.
Same thing with any counterfeit merchandise really: a misshapen logo here, poor quality materials there...
There's always a 'tell'...
In this case, investigators intercepted a large shipment of bootleg CDs entitled
Walk Like a Phoenician
:^)
That’s it.
They established a permanent settlement in what’s now Arizona.
Glen Campbell recorded a song about it.
Duh!
:^)
