By “Europe being captured,” I was less specific than I should have been. Europe's political “elite” and some state-owned and state-controlled media and academics who rely on state funding. But I see a process occurring in which alternative media — the new bugaboo for then corrupt elite — are multiplying. Time will show both the likes of the AfD and DSW finding they use different political vocabulary to say quite the same thing. Ditto with the latest parliamentary vote toppling Bernier in France. Ditto with the rank-and-file in Britain as we watch Labour voters becoming very angry with Starmer. Of course Meloni, Orbán and others are also “irritants” to the the corrupt EU “management,” I'd say the “European project” is unwinding.

Some of our old friends and neighbors in Germany are "waking" too, as correspondence shows us. That "rules-based order" is coming undone in slo-mo, but it is coming undone. Draghi's "debt harmonization" ploy will fan the flames too. Stay well.

That has long been my theory too. The Eastern bloc nations know where the Western bloc nations are going, and they want no part of it.

Good morning. There was a fine interview with Arnold Toynbee, which I would recommend. His take is convincing. This historian of note suggests that the conflicts all ultimately reduce back down to conflicting beliefs. Europe's current crop of supposedly "elite" thinkers and leaders are slowly being resisted by their own citizens, albeit slowly.

This stems from the two Western heresies, as I would call them, as socialism -- noting that National Socialism was one such -- and the latest frauds of "Green" and "woke."

When and as European peoples awaken to find their cultures in severe risk, I suspect they will resist more and more, in different ways. In this regard, our US is at a similar risk. And, given the last election's result, that resistance is showing itself.

The visuals of the rebuilt Notre Dame suggest themselves iconically, in this regard. Western societies are likely to be healing, which, per Toynbee and others, will also bring strife and more. Persevere. Best wishes.

thank you for your friendly and erudite words and for the link to the Toynbee video. He was a gentleman, who knew his subject - a true savant of his era.

While Marx, for instance, sees nothing but economic factors at work in history (which makes him pseudo-scholarly), Toynbee includes every cultural and historic feature 🙂

Yes, but he got it correct that conflicts between the base and the superstructure can occur - but by this he should have meant the interests of the ordinary people on one hand and the interests of the power-elites on the other.

We can see this situation nowadays all over the West, and with the election of Trump in the US, we may see that both interests are going to align more closely in the future. May this come to pass. 🙏🏻
