Nowadays the Russians simply try to batter Ukrainian frontlines. Modern war is too destructive to make it worthwhile to capture a city.
The war will be over soon. Russia won this one. She won when Putin and Xi shook hands. With China’s backing Putin can’t lose., It is a question of time. It took time to weed out the corruption in the Russian Army. Now its a lean mean machine that will grind Ukraine to dust—in time. Now, in Syria, Russia may well lose—and we will have Isis 2.01. Turkey and Israel made this (with Biden’s help) and its going to be bloody work to root out the Islamist fanatics this time. We humbled Russia but a revived Turkey may not be what we expect.

Its about men more than anything else. All the foreign aid to Ukraine has not been able to match Russias military resources at any point in this war. Ukraine has always been the underdog.

As the article notes, Russia has compensated with glide bombs. However, that mode of attack puts a heck of a lot of hours on the Russian planes’ airframes.
Also, part of the change in ratio is due to increased shell production by the Euro’s.
