It’s good that he was able to work until his last day. Not everybody gets to live the life of being able to work until their last moments if they wish.
My father spent 30 years unemployed because he was fired for performance issues around the age of 55 and stayed unemployed for the rest of his life. He was fortunate, however, that he accumulated enough of a pension to be able to support him and his wife and still accumulate a fair bit of savings as well.
