It is unique. In the summer everyone goes for Dells lemonade and ice cream shops call a milkshake a “cabinet”. Still haven’t figured that one out.
Is their trailer/restaurant still parked in the street? Good cheeseburgers!
Nope. Been drinking it for almost 60 years. No coffee grounds in the syrup. I am sure it is filtered out. The syrup is a thick black liquid. Coffee Milk is way better than Chocolate Milk. I don’t live near Rhode Island anymore, but can still buy the syrup at most of the large grocery chains here in New Hampshire.
Don’t forget to add a cabinet & grinder pop in a jonney cake and wash it all down with some Dells lemonaide. Now your talkin!
The missus is from back there. I always kind of liked Cindy’s Diner in North Scituate when we would visit that neck of the woods. And Newport Creamery for an awful awful.
Coffee milk was a favorite of mine while growing up in Mass in the 50s-60s.
When I visited Italy my relatives would make “cafe latte” for me for breakfast which, of course, means “coffee milk.” They used espresso for the coffee part.
In the U.S. folks ask for a “latte” because saying “cafe latte” takes too long, I guess. So they are asking for milk but expecting coffee milk.
The authoress.
Just another Left looney.
Sounds delicious. I’m going to try some. Love the taste of coffee. I wonder if it’s good with ice cream.
Houston is a lot smaller than Jacksonville, it appears.
Yep, Jacksonville is huge.
Figured it was for the kids and did not inquire of the natives.
That is getting fairly close to twice the size of Houston.

Yes. And Connicut, Delaware, why not consolidate some of these states into a few bigger ones? Like TN and KY. That would be one nice state. I think Iowa is the smallest area wise east of Indiana.
It was. The Indians have been drinking coffee milk beverages for 2 centuries or longer.
I think grandma used to say “Der Geschmack über allem” or something like that anyway.
With this article about Coffee Milk from “Food and Wine,” you would think there was a recipe on how to make it.
Here it is:
Brew 1/2 cup finely ground coffee with 2 cups water to make a super-strong coffee base, then combine it with 1 cup sugar. Simmer the mixture for about 30 minutes, until it’s reduced by half (down to 1 cup) and really concentrated. Refrigerate the mixture and use it up over a period of two weeks.
Instant coffee is a quick way to make your own coffee syrup. Heat 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Once the sugar has dissolved, stir in 1/4 cup of your favorite brand of instant coffee and remove it from the heat.
For those who need to avoid sugar, substitute Splenda.
To make Coffee Milk mix:
2 quarts cold 2% or whole milk
1 cup coffee syrup
There aren’t any grounds in at least the commercially available coffee milk I grew up with.
What I knew was a concentrated, sweet, coffee-based or flavored syrup that you’d mix into a glass of cold milk.
