One key to financial security is to have money at your reach. That means a good sized pot in savings and checking right now. It makes it easier to spend that money because it is sitting there doing nothing but giving you peace of mind. Your 20’s self would want you to spend that money you put away for retirement.
Given that “home” is a stone’s throw from the Canadian border we love the climate, but the traffic in FL is insane.
When a 15 mile drive typically takes an hour, that’s a little hard to stomach.
I have a friend who goes to FL every winter (Jan-Mar) but never the same place. He has a network of people that decide where to go.

Yeah, it’s bad, but depends on where your driving. Some parts are terrible but others are not so bad. We don’t go into South Florida other than down to Key West once very couple of years. On the Gulf side we hit Siesta Beach and Tarpon Springs every now and then. Other than that we spend most of our FL time in the DeLand-Sanford area and along the coast from New Smyrna up to St. Augustine and Fernandina.
You are right. But I got in this situation by NOT listening to my 20’s self. It isn’t easy changing course now.
I retired and then went back to work PT. I make more money than I ever did and not by a little. It’s significant but we don’t spend money. So it just piles up.
