Putin said this earlier in the month:
“Our proposals are not aimed against [the] dollar. This is simply us rising to the challenge of modern times, in response towards the development of the economy we are thinking about.”
I think that was signal he'd be willing to back off de-dollarization in exchange for ending the war in Ukraine on favorable terms.
And, of course, we'd have to restore Russia's ability to pay in dollars by dropping the sanctions that have made it more difficult.
You guys don’t seem to get it. TRUMP WILL SET THE TERMS. THAT IS HOW IT WILL BE.
Any terms for a deal are vastly complicated by the Minsk II ruse as a ploy to buy time to build up the nazi army.
Now if NATO and Ukraine agree to give up their claims, promise not to arm Ukraine or bring them into NATO, or base Brit and US troops there. How can the Russians trust the word of the DC/London axis?
On any given day they could wake up and see a NATO announcement that as of 3 hours ago, Ukraine was admitted into NATO. A USAF fighter wing landed last night, Zelinsky reasserts his claim on Crimea. etc etc.
To stop this war will take much more than coming to terms. The Russians have to be somehow convinced of our good faith, and at the moment, there is the opposite.
Again, Trump sets the terms, and will work out a deal.
Wasting money on a lost war that has nothing to do with our national security that has us closer to WW III and nuclear war than we were during the Cold War is the best course of action.
Trump knows continuing this war will only result in more lost Ukrainian lives, more lost territory and more wasted tax dollars. If you don't realize, you're stupid.
No, I agree. But z or Putin won’t set the terms.
Love him and wish him well. But we are the ones desperate for “a deal”. And we are offering nothing in return. We aren’t going to war with Russia, he won’t bomb Moscow.
We won’t turn on SWIFT, end sanctions, or release the impounded hundreds of billions.
We just want to be able to pivot to the “rebuild Ukraine grift” and have breathing room to build them back up again, bring them into an alliance and rearm them.
We offer nothing, and no matter what deal he tries to get, the vast majority of Congress wants to pour more into Ukraine.
Really, not an American problem anymore. You want to end the war? Just cut off the Uke reich and walk away.
“I think that was signal he’d be willing to back off de-dollarization in exchange for ending the war in Ukraine on favorable terms.
And, of course, we’d have to restore Russia’s ability to pay in dollars by dropping the sanctions that have made it more difficult.”
If DC and London turns on SWIFT, restores the impounded hundreds of billions of Russian deposits and gold, and ends the sanctions... I will buy you a fine Wagyu aged ribeye.
It’ll never happen.
I trust that Trump will bring the war to an end. As he said, he wants the dying and killing to stop.
He could certainly lift all sanctions on Russian banks.
These sanctions were a result of EOs by Biden.
“there is zero reason why Trump wouldn’t allow SWIFT to be restored on our end if Russia backs off de-dollarization.”
Sanctions have come from Congress. They will double down.
Some info.
The National Security Advisor is NOT the director of the National Security Agency (who must by law be a commissioned military officer).
The National Security Advisor was John Bolton’s position. It is under the Director of National Intelligence who will be Tulsi Gabbard. The position is advisory and has no particular authority.
Right where the border was drawn pre-2014“
I would not bet the farm on that one.
The Minsk deal and the deal Russia agreed to in Turkey look pretty good now.
And down the road a bit...Ukraine will be begging for gas....along with the EU.
More proof of your incredible ignorance of the state of the war.
1) We nor NATO combined can match Russia's production of weapons.
2) We don't have the spare air defense systems or missiles to give Ukraine. 4) Ukraine's electric grid is on the verge of collapse. Kiev is facing eight to 20 hour blackouts in the winter. If the Russians takeout the electric grid, Ukraine will be unhabitable.
It's the Russians in a position to achieve peace through stength.
You're dumb, Marcus.
I don't want to see WW III or nuclear war, which crazy fools like you keep pushing us toward.
You're the one that doesn't care how many Ukrainians die in your lust to kill or harm Russians.
You're bordering on mental illness.
That's not what Gorbachev said.
Did NATO Promise Not to Enlarge? Gorbachev Says “No”
We now have a very authoritative voice from Moscow confirming this understanding. Russia behind the Headlines has published an interview with Gorbachev, who was Soviet president during the discussions and treaty negotiations concerning German reunification. The interviewer asked why Gorbachev did not “insist that the promises made to you [Gorbachev]—particularly U.S. Secretary of State James Baker’s promise that NATO would not expand into the East—be legally encoded?” Gorbachev replied: “The topic of ‘NATO expansion’ was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. … Another issue we brought up was discussed: making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR after German reunification. Baker’s statement was made in that context… Everything that could have been and needed to be done to solidify that political obligation was done. And fulfilled.”
Gorbachev continued that “The agreement on a final settlement with Germany said that no new military structures would be created in the eastern part of the country; no additional troops would be deployed; no weapons of mass destruction would be placed there. It has been obeyed all these years.” To be sure, the former Soviet president criticized NATO enlargement and called it a violation of the spirit of the assurances given Moscow in 1990, but he made clear there was no promise regarding broader enlargement.
Sorry Charlie...
I’m sure the Russians will let Ukraine keep Odessa if the annexed territory is recognized as Russian.
That's laughable considering that the Russians are among the worst bad faith actors on the planet, along with the ChiComs, Norks, and Iranians. How can anyone ever trust Putin's word on anything?
