No sucker about it. I am now convinced that the “art world” is a huge money laundering scheme.

I know it violates a longstanding FR tradition, but in this case, the article MUST be read.
The banana was replaced every two or three days in the museum. In one case, a student snatched the banana that was on display and ate it on the spot, to the horror of onlookers. There is no word about trauma counseling for museum staff who witnessed this sacrilege.
Eating the banana is supposed to make the buyer a participant in this work of “art.” I guess it transforms a static object into a prop for performance art. Or something.
What the buyer actually purchased was not the banana, nor even the duct tape. He purchased instructions on how to replace the banana as needed. So: he paid $6.2 million for instructions for buying a banana.
I see an opportunity here. Some enterprising fruit seller should make a poster display on this artistic adventure and mark his bananas up to $6.2 million apiece. I don’t think Safeway could pull this off; its customers are price sensitive. Perhaps a street vendor in the vicinity of a swanky modern art museum could do it and sell to the avant garde liberals who patronize the museum. Starbucks built an empire selling overpriced coffee to people who are really buying branded disposable coffee cups as a status marker. This is a natural evolution.

Is this “artwork” the reason Elon Musk suspended a banana on a string inside his Space X vehicle that was recently launched?
