The winter tourist season is approaching. That means more Canadian dollars and Euros.

They’ll all be heading for the evil and “wasis” America for the supremacist gringos to take care of them.

“Most hate communism, but as 20% of the population work for the government, and are spies, overturning it is almost impossible.”

Your comment is a good and timely reminder to learn who the communists are on your street. Should full blown communism come here, these cretins will be tomorrow’s “block captains” for the regime and stitching on you. One of the first clues is the “in this house we believe...” signs on their lawn.

Can we assume the escaping Cubans are coming to the US courtesy of President Sniffer, Kamala and the Cartels?

And that Russian and China are moving into South and Central America and don’t ‘need’ Cuba anymore?

And we ignored all this happeing because of stupid places like Ukraine and the Middle East and greedy corrupt members of the SWAMP with their hands out? This mess ‘should NOT have happened and should NOT be our problem’? Pray for Trump to win the upcoming election...

That means more Canadian dollars and Euros.

The beaches are nice and the whores are cheap, but at some point the tourists are going to want electric lights and running water.

More worried that China will come to their ‘rescue’ and put military bases all over the island.

Air Canada is offering a tour package to Havana.

Obviously, Cuba can get foreign exchange.

The power stations were probably built with Russian equipment and the Russians would certainly be willing to sell replacement parts.

The power stations probably could run on wood alcohol.

The amount of foreign exchange is what matters. Russia is in the middle of a war. It is not clear Russia has replacement parts for plants built 30 years ago.

Tourism to Cuba is way down. Hard to know what the plants were built to run on. It might be diesel fuel. Could even be coal.

Changing a plant to run on a different fuel is tricky and tends to result in lower production. It is not an easy or quick fix.

It appears the Communists have sucked about all the value they can out of Cuba. Fidel was reported to be worth billions, mostly in foreign accounts. Maybe the Castro family could repatriate some of the money to invest in power plants.

“When America stopped oil supplies, Cuba turned to the Soviet Union for help. But when that collapsed in 1991, Cuba lost approximately 80% of both its imports and exports, and GDP dropped by 34%. The Special Period that followed caused near famine with meat and dairy products dropping out of the Cuban diet. One study claimed going vegan and organic through need, actually improved the health of the nation. I bet it didn’t feel like that at the time! Eventually Venezuela stepped in with oil and other supplies in return for doctors. As a result, images of Hugo Chavez are everywhere across the country as ‘the best friend of Cuba’.”

“We saw very little plastic rubbish around, few plastic bags, no rubbish on the side of the highway and people took their own bags or baskets to the market.”

“It’s hot in Cuba, seriously hot. But there’s very little air conditioning even in Havana. The power supply and infrastructure simply aren’t there to support air conditioners, even if they are available and affordable.”

“The level of musicianship of the performers in the local bar has to be heard to be believed.”

We need to pray for the poor Cuban people. Destitute, no food, water, power. They are suffering greatly. Most hate communism, but as 20% of the population work for the government, and are spies, overturning it is almost impossible. There are communities of Christians across the country who are really suffering - I have friends who go to minister there about once a year. It is so sad. So please pray. I’m praying for a complete collapse of the communist government and a rising up of those wanting freedom. And for supplies to meet their needs.

Yours is the proper attitude. I was stationed in Puerto Rico with the Navy for three years and covered GITMO for a couple of weeks when they needed medical backup.

Cuba has the potential for real development if the government would fall.

As the old saying goes, "You can vote yourself into communism but you have to fight your way out of it."

Re: "Cuba Collapse"

Translation...

Cuba will send 100% of their criminal inmates, disabled citizens, and their mentally ill, to the USA.

At his inauguration the first words out of his mouth should be a loud “Viva Cuba Libre!”

Re: "Most Cubans hate communism"

Sorry - that is completely wrong.

The 1960 Cuban immigrants were the Cuban professional class and business owners. Many of them traced their ancestors to Europe. They - and their USA born children and grandchildren - vote heavily Republican.

The 1980-2024 Cuban immigrants are mostly African and Caribbean. They only thing they hate is being poor. They vote 75% Democrat.

That's the problem -- the verb "to sell". Cuba has very little with which to pay any sellers.

The USSR used to prop Cuba up with all kinds of freebies and handouts, just to have a strategic outpost next to the US. Russia isn't doing that.

Now would be a good moment for Trump to offer a golden parachute to the Castro regime. Leave the island, find refuge around the Mediterranean, and we will make Cuba a resort/ag economy.
