You shouldn’t have shorted ETN.
Just trying to keep up with inflation.
“Just trying to keep up with inflation.”
Be serious
That’s how it works out for a lot of people...including me with the crappy oil stock I inherited from my parents.
“That’s how it works out for a lot of people...including me with the crappy oil stock I inherited from my parents.”
I have owned two major oil companies for decades. Nice returns and very good dividends.
I am curious. Was your stock a small speculative?
My father bought the oil stock in the 1960’s.
Occidental Petroleum Corporation. At least they were smart enough to move their corporate headquarters from Los Angeles to Houston.
When George W. Bush was president, it hit a high of $117.00.
Now, it’s down to $54.00 a share.
The dividends were $400 + per quarter for years; now it’s about $120.00 per quarter.
Back in the 1980’s, there was a saying “Dig for oil on Wall Street.” Meaning, large oil companies would buy, or do a hostile takeover, of smaller to medium sized oil companies.
Armand Hammer, the head honcho of Occidental for years, purchased Iowa Beef Processors for billions of dollars, even though that company had nothing to do with oil or natural gas production.
Hammer’s intent was to encumber Occidental with so much debt it would be an unattractive take over target. His “poison pill” strategy worked; bigger oil companies stayed away.
Not that many years ago, Occidental’s stock slid to a measly
nine dollars a share before going up to $77. I tried to convince family members to buy more stock when it went that low, but they didn’t want to. I should have bought some on my own.
I’ve heard Sean Hannity say he doesn’t trust the stock market and he said he doesn’t own any stock; he prefers real estate.
Somewhere I read that Hannity owns 900 properties in seven states. I don’t know if that’s true, but that’s impressive if so. Here in Maine, I’ve heard Hannity do radio commercials for a large real estate company in Bangor.
Maybe he owns land here, too.
“Occidental Petroleum Corporation.”
Looks like you made some money
2 years my ‘exit orifice’!
The market was underwater until January 19th 2024.
2 years underwater and 9-ish months above.
I opined on this subject previously.

I made a pretty picture (Yahoo finance link below)
It’s a busy chart but it is dynamic.
Change from day to week to month and zoom in/out for different details to show.
The red trend is PDJT 48 months. :-)
The purple trend at the top is where brandon needs to be to tie PDJT.
It shows the brandon Bear trend.
It shows the brandon 2 year stagnation trend.
Where were the brandon ‘pundits’ marking those birthdays?
Everyone has an agenda so take it with a bit of salt.

Oblammer the halfrican(_HE_ is the one telling everyone this is what he wants to be known for) handed PDJT 4 years of mediocre 52% gain. He actually had a better 4 years his 1st term. By _HIS_ logic w handed him 85%. Reality says otherwise.

Well, my parents did. My mother was happy to get their dividend checks over the years.
Do you think inflation doesn’t affect the stock market?
