You guys are probably right that my TURP wasn’t done with a green laser, then, given the amount of time it took for the bleeding to quit and get flushed out (maybe 12 hours or so). Still, no complaints from me.

Your bleeding quit in 12 hours? Wow!

Not completely, but that’s when they stopped bladder irrigation and turned me loose. Took another day or two until my urine was clear.

It seems to me that it is absolutely an option you should explore. Find out more about prostate embolization and ask if it is an option. Get a second opinion as well.

Ah. Many of us (both men and women) have this crazy urinary thing as we age.

I have this theory that, back when we roamed the plains clothed in mammoth skins, we understood our surroundings intimately, in that we knew where every climb-able tree was, how far we were from it, and at a full run, how long it would take us to get to it, all the while keeping our eyes out for Saber-Toothed Tigers or other predators.

Today, I feel a modern iteration of that.

When I go anywhere, I need to know where the nearest bathroom is, and how long it would take to get there. When I see a national drug store chain, I know they have a bathroom inside, and approximately where it might be. The vicious beast pursuing me is not a slavering Saber-Toothed Tiger, but instead, my own aggressive urinary bladder, kicking me from the inside out. As I get closer to a bathroom, it begins to kick at me internally with greater vigor and frequency... by the time I get to a bathroom, my own traitorous bladder might as well be firing shots from a handgun directly at my toes and commanding me to “Dance!”

I don’t have anything against the aging process, but this aspect of it does make me wonder about the panopoly of cruel jokes nature seems to enjoy playing on us, although, as the situation with your husband attests to, it is simply an annoying and embarrassing joke.

On the bright side, when I drive places with my old friends, the atmosphere in the car is quite different from what it used to be...in the “old days” nobody wanted to be the first one to request we find a place to take a pee. All the other guys would rib you mercilessly, if not good-naturedly.

Now, it is quite different. We are much more solicitous towards each other in this respect...:) In the old days it would be “For crying out loud, why don’t you just wear some depends or get a milk jug!”

Now, everyone silently thanks the person who suggests a stop!

Hahaha...I had a stressful dream the other night. I was back in the military, on some enormous base, with tens of thousands of men all wearing fatigues, and like army ants, all getting ready to march in the same direction. I was relating this dream to my wife, and said:

“So, here we are, all getting ready to move out and...”

My wife blurts out “You have to go to the bathroom!”

I nearly fell to the ground in laughter...she just KNEW.

That was the genesis of the whole stress of the dream. The head was only about thirty feet away, and I said to the guy in charge, marshaling us to leave, and I said to him “I’m going to run over there and take a piss!” The guy looked at me in irritation, but didn’t say anything, so off I went.

Of course, when I came out, all of my mates were gone, and I spent the next several hours of restless dreaming running in the direction everyone else was going in, hoping to catch up with my unit, though I never did. At one point, I came to a dirt road that went upwards at about a 45 degree angle, and I began clambering up it frantically, trying to make up time, using both my hands and slipping, skidding feet.

I suddenly woke up, and both of my legs were pistoning furiously under my sheets!

Lucky for my wife, she wasn’t in bed because she can’t sleep most of the time. I used to be a hockey goalie when I was a young man, and I had a dream I was making a skate save on a shot, only to kick her in the leg in my sleep!

Furious, she punched me and said irritably “What the hell are you doing?”

Reading it, I see this:

"...Overall, 65.8% of the patients treated for AUR had their indwelling catheter removed within three months of PAE and remained catheter-free at 24 months..."

So...it isn't 100% by any means. But if it were ME, I would 100% try it for a 65% chance at not having to have the catheter.

Good luck. I will pray for him to get better, his medical team to have the spiritual oversight to help him, and for you to retain your sanity.

Hang in there, FRiend...

By the way, I am not a physician, but I have spent nearly 40 years in healthcare from everything to direct patient care to the IT end of things, so I can speak conversantly about it with people and maintain a fair balance of knowledge and objectivity. Hope this helps...
