I guess they chose to ignore that whole part about Haley plagiarizing Roots.

Loved John Amos, hated the propaganda piece Roots.
It aired when I was in middle school and all the "social studies" teacher were all atwitter over it. I found it preachy and unbelievable.

I like John Amos but it’s been so long that I had forgotten he was the lead in Roots.

I remember how funny Amos was when he played the coach in the movie “The World’s Greatest Athlete.”

I never watched roots. Still haven’t. Kinda sucked not being able to talk about it when everyone was talking about it.

Too bad Amos died.
Too bad Roots didn’t die decades ago.

I was wondering who the third one would be. Rest in Peace, James Amos.

I thought Wilona was kind of hot, especially in that tennis outfit.
Ja’Net DuBois also sang the Jeffersons theme song.

“The actor was best known for his role as Kunta Kinte “
How can someone (a urinalist) make such a YUGE mistake?
Guess what! They didn’t.
Main cast
James Earl Jones – Alex Haley
John Amos – Older Kunta Kinte (3)
Maya Angelou – Nyo Boto (1)
Ed Asner – Capt. Davies (2)
Lloyd Bridges – Evan Brent (2)
Georg Stanford Brown – Tom Harvey (2)
LeVar Burton – Young Kunta Kinte (2)
Actually John Amos appeared in more episodes than LeVar Burton. 3 to 2.

I tried to watch it when it first aired. I turned it off after the OJ Simpson scene. It was as you said, preachy and unbelievable.
