We’ve got the great Draeger’s Market on the SF Peninsula, but their prices are astronomical! Lots of specialty foods, but lots of staples, too. But prices must be 25% (or more) higher than the Safeway just down the road.

Thanks for the clarification, Doc.

I need to re-orient my thinking to use the AI tools more frequently. That idea just doesn’t pop into my head as the #1 choice now.

I asked ChatGPT yesterday “What’s it like to live in North Idaho?” and its answer was excellent.

HEB has a store in Magnolia that is awesome.

They have a barbeque joint inside and as soon as you walk in the place, you can smell the wood smoke and the brisket.

I was in Jax late 70s and 80s. Seemed like Winn Dixie was frequently in the news.

Safeway gobbled up Albertsons ten years ago. Our Albertsons operated under that name until earlier this year when they remodeled and changed the store sign to “Safeway.” Now we have two Safeway stores about two miles apart. I like Safeway a lot. We rotate between the Safeway stores, Wal-Mart, Fred Meyer, and the two local stores Pilgrim’s Market and Super-One Foods. All are good.

Trader is the only store on that list that exists in Spokane. Fortunately, one of their stores is very close to me.

My daughter, her husband and I were visiting relatives in Texas. We walked into an Aldi, went in three directions, and none of us could find anything we’d eat. Looked seriously like a store for junk food junkies.

Odd.

Are you sure it was Aldi?

“In Texas it’s HEB. Nothing else matters.”

Very true,
But if we are buying anything but food we go to Walmart, HEB is not cheap on paper goods, soap etc.
Also now fortunate to have a small local meat market five minutes away. Prices closer to Walmart and HEB than you would think and better quality.

Ya, it makes it sound like the prices are high, but Hy-Vee stands for the nicknames of the founders.

Hundred percent sure. My sister in Texas, who we were visiting, always shopped there and recommended it. She died last week., I’m 12 years older and in perfect health. Fussy about what I eat.

Interesting.

What sort of junk food are you referring to?
