Unfortunately, a 2020 study predicted wave heights in the North Pacific are going to increase with climate change, which suggests the Ucluelet wave may not hold its record for as long as our current predictions suggest.

They just can't help themselves and every time they do so 'science' becomes less trustworthy as do the people now perceived to practice it.
If you wanted to write a daily global warming article you should have included a bit of 'science' in it. Sighting a 2020 study predicting bigger waves as somehow authoritative and relation to this incident is beyond lazy.

Yes, it can’t rewrite history. Capt. Rafael Semmes, late of the US Navy, then on duty with another navy, recorded a rogue wave of over 50 feet in the Caribbean in 1862 or ‘63. I don’t have his book here to be more specific on the details. He was an accurate observer and can be relied on.
It started with the observation that we are in a very favorable climate window, with small variation, compared to the past. This suggested, as the earth grew out of our current climate, variation in weather events would increase.
That is pure conjecture.
Another point of view is as the earth grows warmer, polar caps decrease in size, and ocean area increases, the differential of temperature between the poles and the tropics becomes smaller.
It is the differential of temperature which drives the weather. Smaller differential, less intense weather.
Although the dog-like hyenas thrived 15 million years ago (with one taxon having colonized North America), they became extinct after a change in climate,..
I’d say, “More nonsensical blame on climate change” would have been better than “Nautical nonsense”.
