I always hated Scooby Do. Even as a kid growing up in the seventies. Never will understand the appeal.

Same here. Plenty of cartoons to watch back then and Scooby Do just never appealed to me.

I loved Scooby Doo but I was into Nancy Drew mysteries back then.

Since then I’ve read everything Agatha Christie ever wrote!

Same here, I would never have thought of such things when I was a kid.

One of the live action movies suggested otherwise. Also they appeared to be a commercial product.

The Mystery Machine never had a paying client, did they?

I’m assuming they got royalties from people buying Scooby snacks.

Oh — they are (or were?) sold in real life — they’re just graham crackers though. (I expected something with bacon at least).

I think Sid and Marty Croft, creators of Puff n Snuff, were also fagulas. Remember their other shows, Lidsville and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters?

And don't forget IowaHawk's classic Fear and Loathing in the Mystery Machine Excerpts from the never-aired 1973 Scooby Doo episode with guest star Hunter S. Thompson.

“ Archie Andrews and Andy Hardy well predate Dobie Gillis.”

The TV show, yes.

The makers of Scooby Doo have said that the Dobie Gillis TV show did influence them.

Fred = Dobie
Daphne = Thalia
Shaggy = Maynard
Thelma = Zelda

Zelda Gilroy portrayed by the butch lesbian, Sheila Kuehl, as Dobie Gillis’ non-love interest, has nothing to do with Archie's Blonde Betty Cooper.

A lot of us boys in the 1960’s sampled Gravy Train.

When my eldest daughter was three, she asked my wife "Mom, cat food doesn't taste very good, does it?" A little questioning revealed that she had sampled Jean-Marie's Alpo kibbles.

Well when they make it seem so wonderful wolfing it down or lapping it up, of course kids try it when nobody’s looking.

I won’t feed my pets any food not made in America. There are still some brands made here. If it says “Made in China” it goes back on the shelf.

The TV show, yes.

Archie Andrews and Andy Hardy also predate the books, which showed up in 1945. Archie was largely inspired by "The Aldrich Family", but now we are getting pretty far from Scooby Doo. Hanna-Barbara was never shy about carbon copies of hits. Then again, neither did DePatie–Freleng,
