You need to get out to a farm or similar place to practice its use. Otherwise you may drop it or injure a family member.
Only guy I know with a farm moved I’m not sure how far away but probably no more than 150-200 miles - and within my state, so.....
Shoot one of the 3” shells, and then you’ll understand why to trade the rest of them off for something else. :)
Yeah, I believe you - I don’t know how much but I’m guessing half of my shells are 3 inch
oops
I just stepped off the longest distance in my house that I can see in a straight line. Bedroom-living room-dining room-entrance hallway from garage. That distance is 34 yards. I have a large dog so I don't expect to be surprised. I have a handgun and can pick rifle or shotgun to sling across my chest depending on what the commotion sounds like. I have motion sensor night lights scattered throughout the house that will illuminate things as long as power is on. I should get a tactical light for my handgun.
Bkmk
"Just take a double barreled shotgun outside and fire it into the air a few times."
We have enough light coming in that I don’t need a flashlight. I DO have a laser on my .38sp. Also 2 fully loaded 9mm in the safe…..
I like the 410 pistol that can handle all the 410 shot gun shells plus the 45 Colt ammo.
I had a Mossberg 500 12ga, but I sold it- I thought it was too much gun for me. Never fired it.
“In the dark, racking it reveals your position to an armed intruder.“
Why not have a round in the chamber? Real life is not like the movies where peeps carry a gun for half the show then rack the slide to indicate how serious they are!!!
Double barrel✔️

There are many theories/beliefs on self/home defense. Step A is having a reliable handgun. It’s needed for quick close encounters. Let’s face it, you cannot carry a rifle or shotgun around all the time. But a handgun you can.
Anything over 50 feet, such as your yard, needs a long gun for quick fire accuracy. That’s where a shotgun comes in. I have a very reliable semi-auto magazine fed shot gun that I have field trained myself with having fired over 400 rounds. It’s very effective at 30 yards and still capable at 50 yards. I alternate each round with military grade 00 Buck and #4 Pheasant shot.
Anything over 50 yards and the AR comes out.
The most IMPORTANT thing is range time. You have to run several hundred rounds through each weapon to be proficient. And keep running rounds through them on a routine basis to maintain proficiency. With range time you acquire muscle memory for quick target acquisition and firearm know how which equates to self confidence. Learn to fire the handgun single handed with either the left or right hands.
And don’t do the stupid Weaver stance while walking around with tunnel vision. I really dislike giving my full frontal body as a target with this stance or walking around with arms extended looking only down the sights while I trip over something or get attacked from the side or rear. This is mostly done on TV - don’t copy it!
Stay away from laser sights. They are next to impossible to acquire a target with, unless you happen to be in the dark. Get a good red dot.
I have the Mossberg 500C with the interchangeable pistol grip and regular stock
Got it on a good sale - at Walmart (years ago) BION
Never been fired
Don’t bother with the pistol grip on a shotgun. Keep the regular stock on it. Much easier to control and point. Even if you’re firing from the hip.
Go by your county sheriffs office and see the desk Sgt.
The Judge makes home invasions like a “box of chocolates”. They never know what they’re going to get. A .410 Winchester Defender or a 45 Colt.
OK
It’s legal for me to carry in my home state no problem
Including pistols - which I usually do
