I remember the banners at Comiskey that said, “Die Yuppie Scum! Go Back To Wrigley!”

Wow, it sounds like you just described the MOST “America in the pre-Disco ‘70s” that I have ever heard. McDonald’s (at its peak), baseball, owner speaking directly to the fans, and a streaker!

I cannot top that.

Isa that paid attendance, or actual people in seats? I thought MLB went to reporting the paid attendance years ago, because of some really low people-in-the-seats numbers is various cities. There could be a number of season ticket holders (payers) that have not shown up for games. I don't think there are refunds for season tickets if you don't use them.

But at least the Sox get a shiny new stadium every 20 years or so, Mostly paid for with taxpayer dollars.

Most likely paid attendance. Season ticket holders will typically sell their tickets to games they don't attend to scalpers. Back when it was safe (pre-Covid) to go into downtown Pittsburgh, my wife and I (and sometimes friends) could get these tickets from scalpers for as little as $5 each, especially late in the season when the Pirates were fighting for next to last place.

I've also seen them bought and sold on Stubhub and sites like that. But they generally charge higher fees than the scalpers; who should probably be called "reverse scalpers."
