That's certainly a good point. However, Russia has always been ruled by an authoritarian. Catherine the Great had good intentions, but she spent her entire reign putting out one brush-fire after another. Also, the untrustworthiness of the media notwithstanding, I don't think anyone could deny that Putin has absolute or nearly absolute power. Do you disagree? Am I mistaken?
I admire Russia and the Russian People very much. My question was not rhetorical. I honestly wonder Russia cannot seem to escape authoritarianism. If you know, please tell me.

Plenty, do realize the EU , especially Germany is in full blown recession, EU in hard times. I myself did three years for DOS overseas ( as an “ Advisor “) because of layoff and the money paid was stupid big, a no brainer with a family to feed.
That said, looking back I was hoodwinked, I was “ scrubbed” from all public records, basically disappeared and given one of those Diplomatic Immunity pages on my Passport. I was told if I was captured or killed, I would be reported as a “ Tourist”….after three years of of that secret agent crap- I finally quit…I will add I was also given a “ get out of jail” card for any offenses committed while back in the US.
