  A new study conducted by the Supreme Council for Antiquities in Egypt has determined that the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza consists of one million limestone rocks.
  
  The number is under half of the previously estimated amount of 2.3 million stones, indicating that the Egyptian pyramid builders were even more organized and efficient than previously thought.
  
  Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council, said that the Great Pyramid was considered to be a national project that all Egyptians took part in, according to an Egyptian State Information Service report last week. The report also mentioned that Hawass and his team analyzed the administrative organization and work scheme used in the construction of the 450-foot tall monument.

  In the Fall 2002 issue of KMT Anthony P. Sakovich showed his systematic approach to estimating the number of stones (some larger, some smaller) in the Khufu pyramid, arrived at a figure of 4 million, and Zahi's response was to say that Khufu's consisted of perhaps one million stones, and each was, on average, less than 2 tons each.

In response to digging, my company frequently digs into wooden water & sewer pipes in a certain area. The structure is still sound(?) even though it has long been abandoned for ‘modern’ metal and plastic.

Does the water source need to be below grade? Could the Egyptians have had an aqueduct above ground like the Romans to feed a wheel for the work?

Its called the first real pyramid because there a re various kings list used to date when it was built, but some of those Kings lists are known forgeries, the order of kings names on those lists differ from list to list, kings often used different names at different points in their reign, lists omit known kings for [ assumed ] political/religious reasons, etc - in short, Kings lists are not reliable for dating.

Yet Egyptologists insist on using them in order to keep the historical fiction created by Herodotus in the 4th century BC alive, no matter the evidence to the contrary. No one wants to lose their career by standing up to the evidence.

Moreover, the optical dating sample on Pyramid of Menkaure dates some 300 years prior to the Kings list date. Which places it as built hundreds of years before the Step Pyramid of Djoser.

So were hydraulics used any where else - who knows? It is obvious that the techniques used to build the Giza complex [ built as a interlocking geometric whole ] were far superior to Djoser. Building large structures with stone had regressed, not advanced.

The blocks were too massive to rely completely on hydraulics, imo. I think it was a combination of hydraulics and manpower. Whatever was optimal at a point in time, sometimes more hydraulics and sometimes more manpower.
