A good forensic pathologist could identify and isolate all injuries, determine roughly when they were received, and, of course, determine which was the cause of death.

At least that's how it's done on British TV crime dramas.;-)

Since casual witnesses and passers by cannot distinguish injuries from a fall from those of a prior beating, the fall is the most obvious cause of death. As for autopsies and criminal investigations, in Russia those are not a matter of finding truth but of establishing what the state wants to be thought true.
