1972-the first year 18 year- olds were allowed to vote. I proudly cast my 18 year old vote for George McGovern. 4 years later it was Jimmy Carter. Would have done it again in ‘80 but I was out of the country.
Fast forward to 1984. Ronald Reagan said he’d do 3 things regarding taxes, defense and confronting the Soviets. Did them all and I was converted. 1984 would make me 30 years old. That may have done more to change me than the other stuff but then it doesn’t explain why rest of the baby boomers didn’t coming around.
So I paid my dues as a leftie. It makes me more a conservative than those that grew up that way and know nothing else.

Great story......it’s also a story that can be relayed to the youngsters of today, many Freepers don’t like them, but many of them will take the same road you did into the “freedom camp” of conservative/libertarian politics & philosophy.
