Somebody noted that he had peace, quiet and endless seafood 🦞🦞 🐠🐟

And he gave it all up

(I’m too old to believe in Santa Cruz.)

It’s OK.

We can still believe in The Legend of Corn Pop.

Love the drive down Hiway 1...

Just about my favorite drive in North America. Trying to figure out how to get back out there next year.

“You either get the joke or you don’t.”

I was going to suggest that you don’t quit your day job but as you are retired I recommend this:

“Just about my favorite drive in North America.”

Till you come upon a washed out section when it is almost dark with only an unlit sawhorse close to it as a warning.

Tired and Hungry wife 30 miles from home now having to backtrack and detour about 130 miles.

Our Boy Scout Master lost his son in a surf kite accident right around there about 15 years ago. He was somewhat green at it. Wind smashed him into the cliff and he died on the spot. It was really tragic.

Used to bicycle down Hwy 1 in the 1970s & 80s. Eventually reached 100+ miles a day. Such a joy. In the Summer there is 15 hours of daylight. Unlike some bicycle idiots, I never thought I ‘owned’ the road. If anything felt to dangerous (around automobiles or trucks), I just got off the bike and walked, or just waited for the danger to pass. Near San Luis Obispo was an old Fosters Freeze converted into Mexican food. The Double-Double Burrito must of had 10,000 calories. Later down the road was a massive chicken (egg?) building. You could smell it before you heard it. Once you were close, the cacophony of thousands of chickens clucking is unforgettable.

I agree about Highway 1, it’s fantastic. ONCE, I drove from San Diego to Monterey, on Hwy 1 from Ventura north. Great drive, but once was enough.

On the other hand, I lived in Mountain View for 12 years. Me and my friends thought nothing of driving to Monterey for weekend fun and food.

There used to be an amusement park on Hwy 17 on the way to Santa Cruz called Santa’s Village. It was open all year long, except for Christmas day.
