It's no conspiracy. The casting couch is the worst kept secret in Hollywood.
I'b bet the overwhelming majority of actresses who started out young (as they all did) at one point early in their career had sex for a role.
I think the parents were so star-struck, they turned a blind eye to it. Some Hollywood mom (who lost her own virginity at 16 to a high school loser at a keg party) thinks, "What's the big deal? At least we'll be rich and she'll be famous!"
And today the girls won't talk about it because partly of shame but mostly because they know they'll never work again. They'll be blacklisted. And every one of those former kid actors, now forgotten, dreams of the big "comeback" role that puts them back on the map.
Dan Schneider was certainly a creep. So far none of underage stars that he directed have out right accused him of sexual assault (that I’m aware of). But some of the stories that have come out are just perverted and weird. Supposedly he had a thing for young girls’ feet and would insist they wear sandals or flipflops in the studio and was always trying to give them foot massages and crap. Apparently, he was the Quentin Tarantino of kids TV.
when Nick paid him tens of millions of dollars and he made them hundreds of millions
'Sunset Boulevard' (1950)
Dylan Mulvanity says, "Hold my beer."
The sick truth is that the parents often pushed for it.
In her autobiography, the late Shirley Temple said the only reason nothing like that ever happened when she began show work, was because her mother was sitting right on side of the stage, for every single rehearsal and filming. She said some of her other friends “like Judy Garland” were not so lucky.
Judy’s mother wanted her daughter “to be nicer to the producers giving her all that work”.
Or not, if we’re just guessing.
Amanda Bynes is not the only one with allegations on him.
She went as far as alleging that he forced her to have an abortion.
Which sort of goes to where I was leading.
His shows were successful because he understood young girls.
That’s Uncle Chester type stuff.
Any 40 year old guy who wants to spend all day around preteen girls is messed up.
I’ve seen articles on other websites that talk about the bad environment he created on set, but I don’t remember where I saw them.
