Your Russian Article in English:

The number of Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine is growing due to wave attacks. What is known about Russia’s losses by March?
Author, Olga Ivshina
Position, BBC Russian Service
March 8, 2024
https://www.bbc.com/russian/articles/cjl45n4kxn2o

ENGLISH INTERPRETATION OF YOUR ARTICLE

“Based on open sources, the BBC, together with the publication Mediazona (recognized in Russia as a “foreign agent”) and a team of volunteers, managed to identify the names of 46,678 Russian military personnel who died in the war in Ukraine since February 2022. Over the past two weeks, 1,555 more people have been confirmed dead, which is one of the highest growth rates in all months of the war.

The current dynamics of Russia’s combat losses is comparable to the figures that we recorded last winter during the large-scale offensive of Russian forces in Donbas. Then, in 2 weeks of February, for example, the death of 1,679 people was confirmed, now it is slightly less.

Since reports of military deaths often reach relatives with a delay, the surge in losses we have recorded partly relates to the consequences of the storming of Avdiivka. But there are also confirmations of later losses related to attempts to develop the offensive of Russian forces in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Unstable front line. Where can the Russian army aim after the capture of Avdiivka

So, this week, 24-year-old private Karimdin Gafurov was buried in the village of Putino in the Perm region. After graduating from college to become a master of finishing works, he went to serve in the army on conscription, and then signed a contract.

But after the end of the minimum term of service, he returned to civilian life — in his native Putino. Last year, Karimdin joined the army again (voluntarily or by conscription?, the local administration did not specify). On February 14, he died on the front line.

A day later, 58-year-old Yuri Sukhoi, who went to war as a volunteer, was buried in the village of Polazna in the same Perm Region. He died less than three months after signing the contract.

The Russian army is INCREASINGLY using the tactics of the Wagner group — wave-like attacks by small assault groups in different directions. This method leads to LARGE LOSSES in manpower, but exhausts the enemy and reduces the defensive power of the Ukrainian artillery.

More than 46 thousand dead are ONLY those losses that we were able to confirm according to open data. The real number of deaths on the Russian side (excluding military personnel from the territories of the so-called “DNR” and “LNR”), according to our observations, MAY BE TWICE AS HIGH. We came to this conclusion by systematically studying the situation in cemeteries in 70 localities across Russia.

It is TOO EARLY to draw conclusions about Russia’s February losses on the fronts, since information about the dead is being received with a DELAY. The data on the autumn months and December are much more complete.

The figures of Russian losses from October 2023 to January 2024 are second only to losses during the storming of Ugledar and Bakhmut in the winter and spring of 2023. At that time, the death rate was twice as high as the average in 2022.

A similar picture is observed now, when the command of the Russian group of forces “Center” is trying to build on its success and move further west.

VOLUNTEERS who went to the front (plus 382 confirmed dead in two weeks), MOBILIZED (plus 219 dead), and PRISONERS recruited from colonies (plus 191 dead) are now suffering the most losses.

Not all of these people died during February, but the general trend continues: two thirds of all the deaths we have identified are those who were not associated with the army before the invasion.

In two years, 12 FEMALE servicemen died in the war, mostly doctors. But very little is reported about the circumstances of their deaths in the obituaries.

So on January 14, Svetlana Medvedeva, a 34-year-old medic from Tyumen, died in Ukraine. And paramedic Nelly Nesterova died in Russia: the military Kamaz in which she was carrying medicines to the front collided with another truck on the highway in the Volgograd region. The woman died on the spot.

COMMANDERS

Since the beginning of the INVASION, Russia has lost at least 3,227 officers in Ukraine.

Including 992 elite command specialists (we included the dead officers of the Airborne Forces, marines, special forces, special forces units of the Russian Guard, as well as military pilots).

The LOSS of these officers may be the most sensitive and difficult for the Russian army to recover, experts interviewed by the BBC believe.

In the case of retirement of ordinary specialists in widespread specialties (for example, shooters or mortar men), a soldier and an officer of another specialty who came to replace them can be retrained in a few weeks, in more rare cases — in one or two months.

BUT IF, for example, the commander of a special forces company dies, then only an officer of the same military specialty can replace him. And his training requires at least four years of military school, and then two or three more years of service to gain relevant experience.

Moreover, in the structure of the Russian armed forces, as a rule, ONLY OFFICERS are trained in synchronous interaction with other branches of the armed forces, especially with artillery. If these tasks are assigned to untrained or inexperienced commanders in a situation of increased stress, this can LEAD TO A LACK OF COORDINATION AND INCREASED LOSSES.”

“Ukrainian Defence Intelligence has reported that authorities in the Russian Federation’s Belgorod Oblast decided to evacuate local residents due to the operations carried out by Russian military volunteer groups.
İntercepted conversation of a resident of the Russian Federation, a fragment of which was provided to Ukrainska Pravda by a source in Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence confirmed this.

An intercepted conversation with a local resident indicates that the people of Grayvoron, Grayvoron district, Belgorod Oblast, Russian Federation, are being evacuated.
“Uncle texted, basically, that buses are standing or going. Grayvoron is being evacuated. Mom called me, Dima called. They said they were evacuating”, says intercepted conversation.

Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod Oblast, reported on Telegram that “the Grayvoron city district was again attacked by the Armed Forces of Ukraine”. Gladkov stated there are casualties in the city. The Russian Volunteer Corps then issued a call to all residents of Kursk and Bryansk oblasts who did not have time or were unable to evacuate to seek shelter immediately.

RUSSIAN VOLUNTEERS from the Freedom of Russia Legion, the Sibir Battalion and the Russian Volunteer Corps liberated two settlements from the Putin regime and the “Second Army of the World” and continue to hold them. The volunteers said that they also decided to “go to Putin’s elections. The volunteers said that they also decided to “go to Putin’s elections.” Moreover, in Ukraine, what they say in the liberation forces of the Russian Federation is only the beginning. Part of the village of Tetkino, which was liberated by Russian volunteers, changed its name in Titchine, and fighting is underway for another part of the village. In addition, it became known that the border Lozovaya Rudka of the Belgorod region was under the control of the liberation forces.”

A Small Ex-Soviet Satellite State Goes Hunting for Arms for Ukraine
Wall Street Journal

PRAGUE—Ukraine is about to receive large shipments of the ammunition it needs most. It won’t come from the U.S., or any other pillar of NATO.

Rather, the deal was clinched by a landlocked country of 10 million people sandwiched between Germany and Poland and known more for its picturesque capital and famed beer than its military prowess.

The Czech Republic, a former Soviet satellite state with little sympathy for Russia’s efforts to restore its lost empire, is one of Ukraine’s most ardent supporters. By activating relations dating back to the Cold War, it has sourced around 800,000 artillery shells from a diverse coalition of suppliers spanning the globe and identified another 700,000 that could be secured with extra funds.

The shells include 300,000 Soviet-standard shells and around 500,000 Western-made rounds, to be delivered in batches by the end of the year. More shells will be available as funding comes in, the Czech government said. Altogether, Czech officials say around 3 billion euros, equivalent to $3.3 billion, would secure around 1.5 million shells—a fraction of the $60 billion aid package for Ukraine now stranded in the U.S. congress. Moscow has ramped up artillery Direct Fire (”DF”) and hit many specific targets in Ukraine, in the northeast border region between Russia and Ukraine.

Budanov supplied inaccurate intel to the troops who attempted the latest “take a swing at Russia.” The particular affair, being a demonstration that showed energy but suffered. Yet, rumors of the jab, might have worked as a morale booster - a hope of the plan that tried to relieve some of the exhaustion.

Budanov supplied inaccurate intel to the troops at Avdiivka. Reinforcements were poorly led, repeatedly into un-supported counterattacks against . . .

The unknown. So, repeating here:

Budanov supplied inaccurate intel to the troops at Avdiivka.

“Budanov supplied inaccurate intel”

Perhaps, there is the ‘fog of war.’ Yet, I believe the major factor is the “Ukrainian forces are so depleted that they now only fire around two shells for every 10 Russia fires at them, according to Western intelligence estimates.”

Jens Stoltenberg, secretary-general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization stated: The Ukrainians aren’t running out of courage, but “they are running out of ammunition.”

About four hours and fifteen minutes of recommended viewing of monetized YouTube videos on a single night ( between 9:47PM and 2:01 AM ) for one day's ostensible news about one day's war events. Only 8 minutes of this commentary can be traced directly back to Ukraine.

Which of those on this threads spend four hours and fifteen minutes watching such repetitions of the same ostensible war commentary one a given day?

EU agrees $5.5bn boost for military aid to Ukraine:
The move provides a welcome boost for Kyiv as support from its other major backer, the US, wavers and its outgunned forces struggle to hold back Russia.
Aljazeera
13 Mar 2024

European Union countries have agreed to provide 5 billion euros ($5.48bn) for military aid to Ukraine as part of a revamp of an EU-run assistance fund, handing Kyiv a timely boost as its forces struggle against Russia’s invasion.

Ambassadors from the EU’s 27 member countries agreed to the overhaul of the European Peace Facility (EPF) fund at a meeting in Brussels on Wednesday after months of wrangling, with EU heavyweights France and Germany at the centre of much of the debate.

“The message is clear: we will support Ukraine with whatever it takes to prevail,” EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell posted on social media platform X after the decision.

The fund operates as a giant cashback scheme, giving EU members refunds for sending munitions to other countries.
