No, and I've long advocated the death penalty for drug dealers and enablers at every level, from street hustler to kingpin and their financiers.
I can relate as I too am a former smoker and cold-turkey quitter. I also have a former drug-abusing son (but did not result in addiction as far as I can tell) who partied for two terms in a northeastern university at our expense, then followed the Grateful Dead's tours around the country for several years. Just good fortune that he didn't get a hot load along the way. When he was in that mode I included him among those I deem undesirables. And wondered where I'd gone wrong.
I hope your missing one is found and turns out OK. But we can do little to affect their choices once they leave our control.
I quit by switching to cigars, and only allowing myself one a week, and since I had neither the time to sit around smoking out of doors so long, nor the money for a really quality cigar, just cheap ones, I ended up quitting.
My son is recovering, and his addiction was to mary jane, but since it became legal in so many place, it has become seriously toxic to adolescents, because by manipulating the growth cycle with sun lamps, which growers can now use openly and large scale because it’s legal, it became so potent that it engendered schizophrenia in the young and latently schizophrenic, triggering that disorder in a bad way. So it was with my son, who after two hospital stays, got scared straight and now has been clean for nearly a year and doing much better.
