I dont have a problem with Linux which is simple Simon to use when you go back to Bell Unix but it’s just not that difficult to use a windows laptop. I had this last one going in record time a few months ago. Solid state disk is wonderful. Windows pro latest version

Why do I have to use SEARCH to find the Control Panel? Why isn't it in the list of left-click programs list?

Hear Hear... And the payoff is incredible reliability after you make the switch Linux. It just keeps going and going and going even with updates turned off. Windows is a constant state of breakdowns and damage control. I am right now on an older machine with Mint 18.3 that was installed over eight years ago, has never been updated, and it still runs like it is a brand new install.

Just a heads up... 18.3 is still the best but needs the FF browser version updated or replaced with another browser. Next best newer one after that is 20.0 and it’s FF is good to go. Mint is making a mistake following Ubuntu into the ditch with their versions between those two and their newer versions after 20.0. If one has a newer machine they are better off installing 20.0 and then upgrading the kernel to the newest one so it will support the latest faster processors and touchscreens.
That is the cool thing about linux. You can run an older version and just upgrade the kernel to the newest as needed.

I've noticed that about Mint. I had 20, then 21, and wasn't impressed with either of them. The network interface with my Windows network never worked well with 20 or 21 either. I normally never use the FF on any version and usually install Palemoon and SlimJet browsers. When I do reinstall it, 18.3 will be the one I install.
The talking points against 18.3 are the outdated kernel and that it doesn’t support newer processors or touchscreens, and that it is no longer supported.
Updating the Kernel cures the first issues or most times your machine doesn’t even need support for a newer processor or touchscreen. And Linux doesn’t need support, once it is working well on a machine it becomes a “if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it” situation and it will be dependable.
And as you know every time you install a new app it also goes and fetches any new/newer dependencies that particular app will need. In this way it is constantly updating it’s self as needed anyhow.
Here is one to bookmark... Mint has some advantages like this app to easily change the kernel only if needed.

First I was halfass joking. Second I was not referring to mobile devices, they are another critter because under contract you are at the mercy of your phone carrier in order to even get service from them. This is NOT the case with personal computers. A Computer manufacturer or OS should never perpetually own your computer and dictate how you can use it.
This is like Chevrolet perpetually owning the car you paid for and dictating who and what you can transport in the vehicle. On top of that having to ask permission to use it every time you start it. And having to have an account with Chevrolet to even use it. This is absolutely no different than what MS is doing...
But since you asked... I get burn phones with android and never attach it to an account. They will still work without setting up a Google account. I disable all Google apps and uninstall all other apps except the basic phone, contacts, text, camera, and storage.
Now the one thing I would like to be rid of but have not built it yet is another search engine. I do have to use Chrome rather than normal Google. I would like to install Brave or other but the downloads come from the “Google store”. This is a problem, because Google injects their control crap into everything on the Google Store. May as well just use Google or Chrome.
So I don’t use my phone for very much internet at all if almost never. Just to find a business phone number now and then.

That's a whole lot of trouble to go through, and probably a lot of cost as well if taken in the aggregate. Not to mention every new burner purchase is a subsidy for Google. To be fair, you probably make less purchases than it sounds like coming across as a forum comment. But still.
Ready to upgrade to a Linux phone and be done with all this Google-harassment? Simple, one and done. I know (or at least believe) you're sophisticated enough that it would be an easy task.
Since you aren't using any apps or all of that mess, you're the perfect candidate.

I used to do that with setting up Linux. Spending several days holding hands step by step to only have them ask where the windows logo was and that they liked and wanted their windows logo back. Or they didn’t like the default colors and didn’t have the time or energy to make a couple extra clicks and make it a color they do like. lol
