Why 12%? Why reduce at all?
Why is it anyone's business how much energy I'm willing to pay for?
I'm not wasting anything but I am keeping my family safe and comfortable.
It's my duty. How dare anyone suggest I must use less than the optimal I'm already using.
Of course I'm not a member of the anti-CO2 religion so their reasoning does not resonate with me.

Ireland was once a pretty rough place, with tough people. Sort of like Germany used to be.
We got pretty good at taming them, pulling their teeth as it were. Now they are fairly compliant to the machine.

My advice...try to wear clothing for 7 to 10 days straight, and limit washing/drying to just one to two days a month.

I was just gonna say the same thing. Cheap, reliable energy in various forms has made the west what is is today with advancement in the standard of living, health, science, etc.

Cut energy use by 12%? How about cut government by 12%? Save a lot more that way....

Government is overhead like an HQ is to a business. There is a little needed, but most is not. Reduce power to all government facilities (not including fire and police but include their HQ) by 90%. Reduce power to all government paid people by 100%. That should get them there. The only impact to the country would be an improvement in productivity and a lower business cost structure.
